Folks of PH, looking for some thoughts on what to buy to lug kids and dogs around.
Current options are:
1. Merc ML320
2. Audi A6 Avant 3.0tdi Le Mans

both are auto's, 56 reg FSH and Audi is on 65K and Merc on 90K miles.

I have driven the Audi and really liked it, looking at the ML later.

Any advice on either of these?

I drove a Grand Cherokee a week or so back, but didn't like it much.
I want some poke and refinement, budget is firm. Anything else I should be looking at?

TIA.

Big Japanese people carrier.

Toyota Alphard or Nissan Elgrand.

£10k would get a really nice example of either... the Nissan can be had with a 350Z engine and the Toyota comes with a Lexus V6.

Bit thirsty unless you go for LPG - if economy is important the Toyota can be had with a hybrid powertrain and the Nissan with diesel.

I'd also consider the E Class Estate you can get a very good one for your budget.

I abandoned all hope for this thread after a certain well known troll tried to wreck it with his usual brand of nonsense.

Anyway, I couldn't find a Toerag that I liked the look of without travelling miles, so it came down to the ML and the A6. The ML was a bag of nails, superficially it looked great, but it had a brake warning light on, a bulb warning light on, the seatbelt was mouldy and most significantly when you stuck your foot down, literally nothing happened. 10% throttle was the same as 100%.
The A6 was a different kettle of fish, it's in great nick drives nicely and has plenty of toys, it also has enough poke for overtaking. So I bought it. 9.5K + I had to throw a new set of tyres on it, so blew my budget by 100 quid.

Not the most exciting purchase in the world but I'm happy with it.
