First post but I'm looking for a bit of advice, I have been looking for a nice 3 series for a while and I have found one it's a 2007 318i petrol and is in great condition. The only problem is that is it has over 160000 miles on the clock. It has a full dick Lovett service history . Would I be silly you buy this car or is the might milage fine as it has a full service history from bmw? Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Can you supply a little more detail? Do you plan to keep it long? What mileage do you do PA?

If well maintained cars can go on and on. If this is the case I would suggest it would be better than a 60K example that had never seen the inside of a garage. I would suggest researching common failure points for the model. If, as purely an EG the answer was that the gearboxes don't cope with much more than 100k then check, has it been addressed. Maybe £100ish spent on a mechanical check (AA or similar) could be worth it if you're seriously considering it? The old man many years ago bought a 220K Merc W124, did this, and they were amazed at how sound such a high miler could be, he went on to take to over 300k.

If the history is good, condition is good and the price is good then yeah, no reason not to if it's the car you're looking for and fits your needs. As far as I'm aware there's nothing major on a 318 to go bang at that mileage.

Thank you both for your replys, they are very helpful. As for the additional information I would be looking to keep it for at least 2 years and maybe even a few after that depending on finances at the time and I do around 10k miles pa

Not a high mileage really. Had you said 30K a year I'd say maybe not a great idea, 4 years would then see it as a 280k mile car, probably near the end of its life. As it is 2 years would take it to 180k, so if well maintained by you would still give the next owner a car with good life (potentially) left in it. Do you have an Autotrader or similar link?
