Daily Driver with Space
Discussion
I'm looking for a bit of help regarding a decent daily driver that will be a bit of a workhorse (bikes, diy, maybe tow a small trailer, and act as a van when needed) but still offers a bit of that nice to own feeling on the daily commute. As much as I used to be massively anti 4x4, these are growing on me as they seem to fill this purpose well, and have a pretty large boot opening compared to estate cars.
Budget up to £8k. I do approx 6-7k miles per year.
So far I have been looking at: -
L322 BMW V8 Range Rover - this would be a 'from the heart' purchase
VW Touareg (2.5TDI Auto) - these appear to be quite robust and well built, with acceptable mpg
Saab 9-5 Aero estate - hard to find a good, lower miles one with a manual gearbox.
Lexus RX - the head says yes, but they just seem soo dull.
Part of me really wants to tick off the Range Rover thing, but I'm not sure I could enjoy it with the running costs. And it just seems massive size and weight wise. Always in my mind though. I'm wondering if I should be going a class down i.e. X3, or just stick with an estate car such as a 330i.
I just want something that's not super dull!
Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

I've got a Touareg 2.5 albeit manual.
Nearing 170k. Had three issues:
Prop centre bearing £145
Window regulator £100
Prop centre bearing £155
It'll do 800 miles on a tank of diesel if you're able and willing to do a steady 70-75mph on the motorway. Achieved this a few times. Seems robust and reliable. £8,000 would buy you a matching pair these days.

I'd say with 6-7k you'd be better off with a petrol version of all the cars you've listed, also take a look for some of these:
