how long before battery goes flat on 2016 spyder boxster

Am aware that I have not used my car for 3 weeks , not exactly the weather.... I just put the key in the ignition the car lights up fine , but have not started it.
Be ok for another couple of weeks ? Long term a trickle ctek is the thing I know...

Don't worry it should be fine, just give it a good run when you do start. I have a Gt4 and it hasn't been started for a few weeks and won't be for at least another month or two have done this many a time before with current car and previous pork ie 987 spyder with no problems and no trickle charge either.

New Porsches appear to have reasonable batteries and even with the car locked with red light flashing I have left the Spyder and others up to three months. New 991s and 981s including the Syder actually warn you on the dash if the battery is undercharged.

Best getting ' Porsche approved' c tek power fag lighter trickle charger from your OPC....made in China, where else, and a snip at around £75.

Be aware, you can't use the lighter on a Spyder. Coincidentally, I bought one from my OPC yesterday and it needed the bulldog clips to attach directly to the battery. The lighter switches off after a few minutes so won't work.

I haven't driven mine for a couple of months and felt it a prudent move. The charger paperwork suggests it can take up to 3 days to completely recharge but after 24 hours the full charge light is on. HTH.

Thanks breadvan , I will get a charger for next winter I think , is the one you purchased a ctek? Let me know the model please and I will get one . My next door neighbour works at tonbridge opc , so I will place an order with him!

I use a CTEK 5.0 ms on my spyder and it works great , I have connected the fly lead direct to battery. Make sure you get one that can do AGM battery as they charge to a higher voltage.

I guess your Spyder hasn't got the smoker package then.......it was a free optional extra which I specified for this purpose....far simpler than accessing the battery!

My battery charge indicated slightly down on the dashboard after standing a while so simply connected the charger into the cig lighter socket and after 2 days it was fully trickle charged.

Well I didn't know that. Mine does have the smokers package but the dealer didn't ask or suggest otherwise, just said I needed the adapter as well because it's a 2016 car.

I'm off to rebuild my plenum chamber......

Yes its standard issue for GT Porsches and the Spyder.

It is possible to buy a similar charger cheaper elsewhere but I would be wary of spec etc also connecting directly to the battery....apart from the extra faff of croc clips and removing plastic covers etc it is far safer charging off the lighter socket.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people use incompatible chargers connected directly to the battery.....easy to get a power surge resulting in a very expensive repair and potential loss of warranty.

CTEK MXS 5.0 - Just get from Amazon around £55 or so - Porsche will be happy to sell you their rebranded version but will probably be the model down and more expensive.

How do you work that out ? The battery conditioner works on voltage to control the charge and the lowest voltage drop and most accurate control is by connecting direct to the battery.

By 'incompatible' I am referring to the old school battery chargers....not more modern smart 'conditioners'.

Just used the car , first time since 15dec , and started on the button. Only went for a 20minute dash to Halfords for a few bits , but a nice hit of sexy car ha ha. Will get a ctek.thanks all.

Go buy the Lidl conditioner /charger on special from this Sunday at £14 ..have a couple connected up to my Porsches .The only drawback it has crock clips and it is a bit of a faf undoing the battery cover on the 981 works ok on the 987 as the battery cover comes out in seconds .
It is fully TUV approved 3 year warranty .I also have the Ctek on the 981 and both work exactly the same been using them for years.
