Cayman model/generation (used) price trending?

Hey guys. Has anyone conducted some formal or informal analysis on the price of used Caymans before?

I am in the market for a used model. My budget is up to £27k, ideally I would like to spend £25k.

For the spec I am after (PDK, black, 19" wheels, Chrono Sport Plus, Bose) it seems I can get a 2011 model. For argument sake I have been looking at what a 2012 (987) would cost and these seems to sit at around £28-29k.

However, I noticed the 981, even 2012 models seem to start at £34k - so a price hike of around £5k between generations, even for a 2012 vehicle.

I personally prefer the 981, but the current models are out of my price range. Does anyone expect the 981 to start dropping in price, and if so when? I figured as more people take delivery of the 718 & March plates this may contribute - but with the 718 being 4 cylinders I thought maybe that's what's causing the 981 to hold their value?

Any thoughts, views & analysis very much appreciated. In no immediate rush to purchase, but having the cash ready, I am quite keen!

Supply of 718s doesn't seem very high at the moment, this may be affecting the amount of used 981s on the market as frequent traders will be waiting for their new cars. Flat four versus flat six is also an issue for some.

Future pricing is a massive guessing game, but expecting 981s to lose 10k in the near future would seem to be unrealistic.

I bought a 987.2 this time last year and spent some time watching a tracking prices before hand and have continued to since. The bottom end of the 987.2 market has been £20k ish for a couple of years, occasionally there is a car for £18k ish, but they are normally quite leggy.

I don't see 987 values moving much in the near future, which means 981 pricing is unlikely to move much either. The 718 going to a 4 cylinder engine is unlikely to do either models any harm.

This is all speculation on my part obviously.
