As above really. Does it really matter when a dozen people have a chat about things, only for a mod to wade in and destroy it?

Imagine yourself in a busy pub with a few back rooms. There's a few people having a laugh in a back room when the landlord come in and says "oi you lot, come back to the main bar and carry on there". Rubbish isn't it?

It matters because it makes a right old mess of the forums, is hard to manage and in turn spawns even more threads to appear for those who are late to a given discussion.

Fortunately most of the time it's self policed by the posters.

Not sure why you have issue with it? It's been this way since PH started.

Fair point, but if the main thread has been inactive for a couple of days, how am I to know when a new one on the same subject appears? Am I supposed to search for every thread subject to find the main thread before I post? rolleyes

Sometimes, if two threads have useful content, the threads gets merged instead. If there are only a couple of posts then it's probably easier to close the thread.
Personally, I think it's for the best

You can always use the flawless search engine.

If you have a few days to find the right combination of phrases to get it to work properly... wink

You don't but they just point you the "right" way.

I'd be asking more about the random moving of threads biggrin

No we don't expect any member to check every thread for duplicates prior to posting a new thread, that's why we step in and either link and close or merge threads to avoid duplication.
We do allow duplication of threads i.e. if a music legend dies then you may well get a thread running in both NP&E and the music forum for instance.

Also, Youtube threads are usually L&C'd in a forum where there is an official thread running, if you look at the size of the official Lounge Youtube thread it's into it's 5 volume, each volume is created when the previous one reaches 10K posts. The Lounge would be awash with Youtube clips on a daily basis if they weren't consolidated.

Other clips are normally be left to run if a forum doesn't have an official thread running.

HTH explain.

wink If only the mods applied that rule to NPE so that we don't have 4 separate current Brexit threads all filled with the same repetitive arguments that have been done ad finitum since the vote to leave...

I'm enjoying the latest closure of the Eastenders related thread about Ronnie and Roxie having been killed off, with the link to the Coronation thread. laugh

Now, that is going to confuse a few. I wonder how long until Big Al reinstates the Eastenders thread and apologises. Never would be my guess. smile
