Evening, looking to buy a diesel saloon that packs a bit of power. Choices i've got down to are a 59+ (transmission is better) BMW 335D or a Jaguar XF S Portfolio. I haven't test drove either yet, jsut wondering if anyone has experience in either car? BMW would be a 59+ plate, and the Jag arond 2010/2011. Have a budget of about 14.5k

Aside from different market, XF is equivalent to a 5 series. The XE is the 3 series equivalent.
he Jaguar would be my choice, but I wouldn't have any BMW as a gift.

Both are lovely, BMW has the better engine but the interior of the Jag is gorgeus and it still has plenty of grunt so I'd probably sway towards the Jag

Yeah that's what my thoughts were, the Jag seems a higher spec than the BMW, I've never owned a diesel either

Having driven both, it depends on what you want - a fast refined saloon with a nice interior, or a sports saloon with a pretty good interior. The Jaguar feels more like a barge, but is more refined and comfortable. The BMW is sharper in terms of handling but loses a little refinement. BMW engines are better in every way, although as others have said I'd not get another diesel from either brand - get a straight six or v8 while you still can (in reality though I do understand that it makes sense for high milers).

What I would say is that while an XF should compare to a 5-Series on paper, it's very cramped and in reality is somewhere between a 3 and a 5 - the boot is small and the opening even more so.

Of the two, the E90 feels pretty dated now.
Even well specced ones feel their age imo (i have a e90 petrol and previously had a 335d).
Jag is a much nicer interior and also rides better.
