My 2012 Cayman R has done 12,500 miles which has included some track days and a few competitive sprints. It was fitted with PCCB from new. I change the front pads regularly (before they get down to 50%) and I noticed yesterday that the outside face of one of the Ceramic discs is no longer smooth and shiny. I am considering my options for renewal which include:

1. New Porsche Ceramic Discs for the front. Expensive and probably least durable option. But it would keep originality.
2. Sicom refurbishment of front discs. No longer a UK agent and heard good reports of the process but mixed reviews of the company in Germany that undertakes the work. Not sure on price but estimate say £1500 for the pair of fronts.
3. Fit new Surface Transformations front discs via JZ Machtech. Cost circa £4,000 for a pair of fronts. Could also do rears for another £4,000.

All costs are plus pads.

I think the ceramics on the 2012 Cayman R are the same size as 997 911 so 390mm on the front. (A bit bigger than the standard steel)

I really want to keep ceramics although if I could keep the same size in steels then that would be something I would consider.

Does anyone know of any other option for refurbishment or renewal of ceramics? Are there any really good options for steels? I had Alcons on my 996 GT3RS.

All comments and advice would be welcome. I am looking for ideas before taking a decision.

Thanks

I would try the surface transform discs. heard their pads are expensive.

btw, cayman R discs are 350mm in size.

Thanks HP - especially the guidance on disc size. Would that be the size of the rears on the 997 911?

I seem to remember reading on one of the ferrari forums (possibly ferrari chat) that quite a few guys in the US tacking their cars replaced the oem discs with movit - supposedly lasted very long / much more durable than oem. Been a few years though since I read that, so you might one to do a search on the discs

Movit use surface transforms rotors afaik. Same thing at a bigger markup that's all.

Another idea: Is there any sort of warranty on the ceramics?

Seems an awfully low mileage for them to wear out. Perhaps OPC could make a good-will gesture towards replacements?

same size. 350mm all round

up to 991.1 GTS all the same size.
Thanks on the pads I

no chance on goodwill, unless you just bought it and didn't do a proper inspection.

I would go ST. RPM can also help source them from ST.
actually check ST website for pricing. No brainer for your cayman R.
