Guess what,
I have a local garage close to my home that can do my 6,000 mile service on my Chimp for £80 plus oil /plugs/oil filter etc!!!
I now the guy is good because he has serviced my previous cars which include a twin turbo Supra and a 3.2 911 as well as a Ducati SPS. He and his boss used to sell TVR's as well a few years back, and he has worked on V8's for years. Now he may not have the smartest place in town but hey you only pay for that crap anyway. A number of you may say that my service history is not going to look good. My car has , up till now ,got a full TVRSH and to be honest you just now that you have paid through the nose and sometimes for really , really poor work.
Anyway I'm happy with this situation ,only sorry I didn't use him before.

Do be sure you compare the costs for a service TVR style and an Oil change service, the service list as isued by TVR ( which dealers and good independants should do)is not just an oil change plugs etc.

By all means save money on a good independant, however don't waste money on a cheap oil only service, it will cost you in the long run.

For £80 they are just changing the oil, it's easy to work out, Quality oil £25 minimum ( semi synthetic) filter £5, plugs £2 each trade, air filter - £15, thats £61 in parts alone! If something gives at speed because it's not been checked, I wouldn't want to be in that car.

Yeh ,thanks for that.
I agree it can be a false economy if you don't know the ability of the people involved but I've known these guys for a number of years and they are very good. He has just replaced the clutch slave and master
cylinders and completed the work within 24hours at a fraction of the cost quoted by a TVR dealer
They even treat your car with respect - proper covers on the paintwork etc. For instance , If he has to stop working on my car for some reason he ensures that the car is placed on the lift and up she goes so that no one can mess with the old girl. Thanks for the advice.

Well in total that doesn't appear to be that different from other deals around. Mine's going to Motorvation Motorsport on Tuesday for a £200 service with NO hidden extras that includes all fluids and parts plus a rolling road dyno tune and allignment check, not something you'd get in a "normal" garage plus the guy that does the service is the an ex main agent workshop manager, has worked directly for and at the factory, and every thing will be done as TVR say it should plus the history stays more respectable. I think I'd rather spend the extra £50 for the extra value.

Got the Chimp back today after It's service.
They found that the front near side calliper had completely siezed and that the pads were in a hell of a state.
They replaced offending items with new kit.
The whole cost for the service (42,000 miles) and sorting the brake fiasco was £240 (incl of vat).
Having only purchased this particular car eight weeks ago with a new MOT on it, should I be asking questions of the TVR specialist dealership that I purchased it from???? How the hell did the car pass it's MOT. In addition to the screwed up calliper one of the pads was in half and fell out. The car had been pulling to the left under hard breaking. Not surprising really was it!
