I'm after a bit of advice- ordered a new family bus (disco sport) a month or so back, promised delivery by end of March. Dealer contacted me today saying it was on its way from factory and could be picked up Thursday. That's great, sooner the better, but we're pretty busy, so difficult to pick it up before the new year. I asked dealer to delay registering it 'til the new year. He's replied saying he has to register it as its being delivered Dec.
Is this a ruse to meet sales figures,? should I be pushing for registering when I want- would it make difference in value being registered '16 rather than'17? Also will pay a month road tax but only get a week.
Am I being unreasonable?
Thoughts welcome....

Absolute rubbish. They're doing it to hit their targets.

If they do register it before you require then get them to make it worth your while. More discount, extra something like gap, mats or anything.

It will still have a 66 registration, irrespective whether it is registered on 31 December 2016 or 1 January 2017.

Also, what is the cost of 3 weeks road tax? £15-£20?

As others have said, the dealer has most likely registered it in December to add to their December figures. It would be a bigger issue in say February or August, where the new reg comes out the following month, but at the end of the day, have you suffered any real loss?

There's probably some effect on residuals. Wouldn't like to guess exactly what, though.
