Was really taken by a GT4 Bristol had for sale. I do think these cars are getting back to the size and fun factor normally associated with GT 911s in the past. Being pretty much new as well and a manual 3.8 makes them really interesting to me.

But my car with 53k miles, spotless condition and total OPC history plus nice options -- me plus two others owned it, and mine for past 10 years -- should I'd have thought be a decent prospect but the offer was 80k

Is this the sort of level we'd expect or is it just dealers trying to screw 25-30k across the purchase and sale of my car hoping that I'm mad or desperate?

I'm assuming that because I've always treated my car as an enormous hoot to own and drive about in having fun and putting a few miles onto it that's going to be marking it down a little but it's been over a year since I've seen one under 110 retail and there's fewer on the market every time I look. JZM's email last week suggested they can push 150k and likely to rise further. I think a straight swap deal is the best I can expect on a GT4.

What's the consensus here please? Wait until spring or buy now in case GT4s values outperform GT2s and I end up having to pay more?

I think you should keep the GT2 rather than swap it for a GT4.

In my opinion its a much more special car with a more characterful and special engine.

.... I know that has nothing to do with your original question, sorry biggrin

Well for someone who once said he found the 997 GT3 engine gutless, lacking in torque and a bit of let down/non-event, this talk of a 380hp N/A car being on your want list all comes as a bit of shock hehe

I can't believe for one moment the GT4 honeymoon will last that long before it dawns on that you've swapped the very last hairy arsed, analogue watercooled car Porsche built, for what is effectively a factory "Hot Rodded" Cayman.

Still, I digress, back to values of 996 GT2's. JZM have sold a couple recently and a one owner Clubsport sold at auction a couple of weeks ago for £103k (but had steel brakes) it had similar miles to yours.

One of the JZM cars was far lower mileage than yours (think sub 20k ?) and hence fetched strong money.

The OPC's bid will be very safe (from their perspective), they won't have a clue what or where the market is for a car such as yours, they'll have looked at cars in the classifieds on here and left themselves plenty of headroom with their bid.

The usual suspects : JZM 911V etc, would retail your car for £100-105k (£110k at a stretch) selling privately you may get £95k (if you can find a buyer willing to buy off a private vendor, but in my experience there aren't a lot of them about).

I'd SOR it with the usual suspects if I were you, but in all honesty it's the wrong time of year to be selling and the market for 996 GT2's isn't particularly strong at the best of times as they're such a niche product.
I wouldn't get out of it in a rush (and take a bigger hit than necessary) to get in to a Cayman GT4, their prices are only heading one way judging by the thread on here ....

I hope you're not suggesting the engine in the GT4 is in any way lacking in character or "specialness" ..... ????

Haha, I'd almost forgotten about the disappointing nature of that GT3 engine -- and that was a proper Mezger too...

I don't know, maybe it's just the time of year and the fact I can't enjoy it so much in the winter.

But already this thread is beginning to show me the error of my ways.

I wonder however about my other longer term desire to switch for a 458 which in LHD are temptingly within range... Talk me out of that can you please?

Logic says keep the GT2 and that you will regret selling it. The problem is that you have looked at another car and you want to make a change.

I am going through the same issue with my 997.1 GT3 Clubsport. I saw a 964 Turbo and I want one.

You could try selling the GT2 outright to an independent, then you have cash to play with regarding a GT4 or whatever you end up buying.

I sold my 2002 GT2 to Paragon last year for 80k, straight forward sale. They put it up for 120k a massive margin I laughed when I saw it, although they had spent quite a bit getting it up to showroom condition. It took them ages to sell it, around 9 months but I hear they accepted an offer near the asking price so it was worth them hanging out. I was happy with the deal, I couldn't handle a private sale and I did try SOR which also didn't work out.

I would hold on to GT2, do not think a GT4 for appeal in the long run coming from a GT2.

I do think SOR is your only realistic option if you want to sell (for more than straight purchase by a dealer) as I just cannot see more than a few people buying cars at that value privately. Given how small the GT2 buyers market it, you might have to wait a while for somebody who would buy privately.

A 458 is special, but gutfeel I'd try to find a 430 Scuderia at similar money - probably more comparable to a GT2

Paragon and JZM had two recent 996 GT2 adverts just under 150k. Do not know what they actually made. Specialist cars at Malton have a Clubsport POA.

I'd question whether they actually sold at all. More likely returned to owner unsold.

Note the mileage and price of this car : (it's one of the earliest cars, so has steel brakes)

https://www.nickwhalesportscarsdirect.co.uk/porsch...

I viewed it 5 years ago and couldn't fault it. It's only done a handful of miles since then (as in less than 500).
It's been up for sale with Darren at NWS for a couple of months now....

996 GT2's always have and always will be a tough niche market.

This my old car (and previously Gavin's) :

http://www.911sport.co.uk/showroom/porsche-996-gt2...

it's a lovely old thing, original panel, no horror stories, and an example that's been fastidiously maintained.
But 90k miles up at £100k ? No chance, it's an £85k car absolute maximum (and probably £80k in reality.

Enjoy it Andy, as once it's gone, you WILL regret it. I do.

Slippydiff has a point, it is possible that dealers just flag them as sold but have in fact returned them to their respective owner who was attempting a Sale or Return.

Never having attempted a SoR, so just my naïve curiosity, is such misreporting of a vehicle's fate an accepted practice in the specialist trade?

I completely agree and I reckon you will be making a very big mistake. Your GT2 you can continue to have great fun with and reap the reward of an appreciating asset but only if you sell at some point down the line. Speak with Mark at Paragon and he will give you an honest answer as to what your car is worth. I think there are a lot better options out there than a GT4

My advice, if you can get a 6-figure sum for your GT2, would be to bank the money and take your time thinking about a replacement.

The GT4 is very highly rated, and its brilliance won't change, but 'cash is king' and there may be other options.

As a comparison, a keen price on this one compared to others on the market if it checks out http://www.lookers.co.uk/used-cars/6137706-porsche... there's a better description on their eBay ad. PCCB's etc. It does look like it's been reduced to move it on though.
