I am thinking about a road trip to Austria in 2017 via. Germany (Black Forest), Switzerland, back through northern Italy and France taking in the French Alps (well, at least 3 of them).

I'm specifically looking for route information for Austria and Italy. Any do's, don'ts and must sees

All suggestions, much appreciated.

Hallstatt is a must visit it's such a beautiful place and some nice roads around that area.

Also Salzburg is a nice place to have a day in, wouldn't stop more then a night maybe 2 then heads towards Innsbruck and then to the Stelvio Pass

I'm after the same Intel, having done Black Forest,Switzerland and Bormio area of Italy, but not Austria.

Very useful site : -http://www.alpentourer.com/alpine_passes/

Starting to plan a ten day mid September tour with a rough outline -entire German Alpine Road to Berchtesgaden and Eagles Nest / Grossglockner Pass through central Austria / Dolomites / Italian-Austria border around Merano doing the PenserJoch, TimmelsJoch, Silvettra, HahntennJoch etc.

Snap. Same time and almost identical route to mine. Only problem is that I haven't actually firmed up the Austria/Italy roads yet.

St. Anton am Arlberg definitely worth a stopover. Great little town, good pubs, good food and great hospitality. We stayed at Hotel Montana, underground parking at a neighboring hotel included.

If you get anywhere close to Salzburg let me know and I am happy to meet up with you. Rossfeldstrasse at the german/Austrian border (Berchtesgaden) is definitely worth a visit
