What to replace a Jaguar XK with?
Discussion
- 60K budget
- Comfy coupe
- must be new or under a year old
- nothing from MB or BMW
Criminally, my Dad's XK comes up for it's first MOT early next year and has done less than ten thousand miles. Nonetheless I think he's after a change.
So far he's mentioned a Mustang, and at this budget and as something that's a bit of an event to drive, I can't really think of anything else.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Morgan Roadster? That would fit the event category and well within budget.
The Lotus Evora 400 would just be in budget for an ex demo example. The suspension is surprisingly supple for a sports car with fixed suspension but not everybody gets on with the revised seats.
Audi TTS would also be within budget, not the most exciting drive but is very easy to drive quick and can be fitted with a load of toys.

To be honest, with such an arbitrary set of requirements I would just stick with the Jag.
The Mustang is probably lots of fun, but they were built to a much lower price than the Jag and I am sure it would be very apparent.
Not many companies are making nice big wafty GT cars now, those that are charge more than your price for a new car. My personal progression from a Jag would be an Aston, but they aren't that comfy and they're not to be had at 12 months old for 60K

A Maserati Granturismo may end up being a better buy as they've stopped production now
60k won't get one a year old but it will get you a whole load of beautiful low mileage manufacturer approved car with 4 proper seats, looks wise it's in a different league to the XK

Get the Mustang and use the spare cash at Bill Sheperd to upgrade it to Shelby spec - Comfy coupe
- must be new or under a year old
- nothing from MB or BMW

Still hard to look past a nice XKR-S.
The problem is, when looking at non-German marques but still having a prestigious image, the main 2 other go-to brands would be Jaguar and Lexus.
With that being said, as already suggested on here; Lexus RCF/GSF? Jaguar XFR(S)/F Type?
I also spotted that nothing from BMW or MB is mentioned but Audi has not. There would be a few options there if that is a viable option to explore.

OP, I don't know if the criteria are coming from you or your dad, but I do urge you to reconsider at least some of them.
Maybe it's just me having had a rubbish week, but I get increasingly tired of people with weird sets of criteria for cars. Especially slightly unrealistic ones.
You want:
60K budget
Comfy coupe
must be new or under a year old
nothing from MB or BMW
Right.
60k budget. - Yep, fine. No problems there.
Comfy coupe - Okay, yep, no problem. Coupe. Not saloon, not estate, not 4x4, not supercar, coupe. I take that to mean probably GT-type car. No problems.
Must be under a year old or new. Right. Stop there. WHY!? Is it a warranty thing? It must be a warranty thing, right? Well, buy any car with a current manufacturer's warranty (up to 3 years normally, sometimes more) and you can keep it going. Usually up to about ten years old. The cost of the warranty is going to cost you much less than buying a new car. Are you worried about vanity? Well, most makers let car models go around 7-10 years between big updates, a private reg plate and most people are clueless. Also, if you think brand new cars never break down, clearly you don't read PH.
Nothing from MB or BMW - Well, I guess you have your reasons, but the problem is most of the cars that fit the "big, comfy coupe" category may be BMW or Merc shaped. My own personal favourite is the 6 series. And not many makers do sub-60k coupes that fit the big, soft GT type. So do you not want MB or BMW because the old man hates them, or your own personal preferences? Have you tried the offerings from them already? Tell us more. The more we know the more we can help you.
Sorry to single you out, there are a million threads like this ("I want a two-door sporty coupe but it must be brand new, have less than 200bhp, be japanese and cost less than £25k but I don't want a GT86/BRZ")
