I am worried that I have missed the boat so to speak for buying an elise, now that the sun is coming out and the prices will start to rise!!!

I am ideally after an S2 elise, sports tourer or race tech, and I've seen plenty around the 16k mark, are these prices going to increase massively from now and through summer? Is it not a good time to buy, should I wait until next winter? Seems like 2nd hand cars aren't really selling, I have had my immaculate mk1 172 up for a month and not a sniff of interest!

Whats the lowest 'real' price for an early s2 at the moment, would be good to have a bench mark figure that i can use to see how much extra people maybe asking due to the sun shinning!!!

any one want a mk1 172?

Hi Dank,

I'm not sure you've missed the boat, prices are still reasonable at the moment so I'd say go for it, I'm sure someone might want your car why don't you put on the classifieds ? Early S2's don't seem to be in high demand at the moment I'm sure you can still get a bargain. (Well a Lotus bargain anyway)

At most they'll go up £500 to a grand... at the end of the day the best cars will sell first in any market.

Don't rush into buying one 'cos you're desperate.

BUUUUUT... why wait 'till summer when it's shining now.

I am not going to rush into buying one, once I sell my beloved 172 then i will definately wait for the right S2 to come along.

Is there any reason early S2's are not in demand? They seem a much better buy than a later S1, ie. newer car, less likely to go wrong!!?

Interesting viewpoint.

15k will buy you a boggo S2 with (relatively) longer legs, probably no frills etc. Alternatively it will buy you an absolute minter of an S1, probably with more toys, and of a better spec.

Most important thing is to work out your budget and try a few you like the look of. Both are different beasts, the S2 was tuned to be more accommodating to a wider audience than the S1 so is a little more compliant, understeers more etc. Check out elises.co.uk for more info.

And don't for a minute think that just because its wearing a newer plate it will be "less likely to go wrong". Most S1's will have had all the niggles dialled out of them by now, and if you get one which has been looked after by a real enthusiast you'll get a real minter.

mustard may be able to offer an interesting viewpoint from a dealer point of view on this...
