RennKit 997 Turbo eRam Electric Wing Actuation Kit review

Earlier this year I posted about the persistent problems I was having with the hydraulic spoiler with only one side rising automatically and the dashboard spoiler failure light coming on every time I went over 75mph. It also wouldn't lower automatically at lower speeds.
The hydraulic rams can't be repaired only replace and the cost for the 997 Turbo was £2k + VAT + fitting. As an alternative, Chris Denning of Chris Denning Sportscars mentioned the Rennkit electric wing actuation kit as a much cheaper replacement and alternative to the hydraulic system which isn't made by Porsche anyway.
I had a look at RennKit's website and the reviews on it including one from Matt Bennett near Castle Combe who had fitted one to his 996 Turbo. I then contacted Matt and spoke with him as to his experience of using the kit and fitting it. He was very pleased with it. So I ordered one at a cost of $1549 +posting = £1262. I had to pay import duty of £80.
Chris then fitted the kit but had real difficulty getting the nearside hydraulic arm off due to corrosion but fortunately no fluid had leaked. The kit looks very neat and fits well. When we came to test it with the car stationary by pressing the spoiler button on the console the spoiler raised smoothly and quietly but after 5 seconds the spoiler failure light came on. I then drove home as it was the end of the working day and when the car reached 75mph on the motorway the spoiler lifted automatically but the dashboard failure light came on after about 5 seconds and the spoiler did not automatically go down and was still up when I got home.
I contacted Dave Cooper, President of RennKit in the US who emailed some further test instructions but the problem persisted. Dave then said that the micro module must be faulty and shipped immediately a new one to me free of charge together with a pair of rubber dust boots to put on the motors. Excellent customer service.
Chris then fitted the new micro module which was a fairly simple process and everything worked without any problem. That was a month ago and it still works perfectly. I can't believe how quiet it is.
For the 997 Turbo it is basically half the price of the hydraulic replacement which eventually will fail as they all do so I'm told and very few people will now attempt a repair on the hydraulic arms.
So far I'm very pleased with the eRam and would recommend it. Time will tell re the longevity and reliability of the electric motors and micro module.
