Long term ownership - LV or BLNR?
Discussion
These are the only 2 Rolex I own, great items
When you say LV which one, the one going up is the 50th Ed, not the new Hulk.
Finding a mint one is harder and harder though as although most say mint they are far from it and stil £8k !
I think BLNR and Hulks will drop in price the next few years before they go up due to more and more on the market each and every day.
The 50th Ed LV is a really nice item, but I only wear it 3 or 4 times a year to keep it as good as a NOS item.
Next on my list is a 2 line no date sub, but I missed the boat and these are on the up at a crazy rate ATM
Were £5k for nos, and now over £7k in 6 months !
USA seem to be stable on these so might be a USA buy.

Thanks - that was my original thinking. I prefer the aesthetics of the Batman, but as an investment the LV 16610 (not the hulk LV, I don't think that will ever be an investment piece as there are way too many about) seems to be the one to get and it's got that 'special' aura about it.
The LV or BLNR will be the second half of a two watch line-up, as I have now got rid of all my others to free up some equity. The one I am keeping from the collection is this DJII Navy Baton white gold fluted, which will be the dress/formal/smart option, and the 'sports' will be added to give me an informal piece for weekends/travels etc.

So blue DJ + to complement it the blue from the batman, or blue DJ + the green LV to give something completely different...?
... and if I go LV, which year/version is the most sought after, slim 4, flat 4 etc?

LV is hard choice as every one has their thoughts, some hate the engraved rehaut, I went with because it's last of the LV, they made less and was he shortest run for this and many models.
Flat 4 not value for money imo (NOS £14k) . But who knows values in 10 years on these over normal ones ! just like the single reds !
just find a nice one and decide if you want the more common none engraved rehaut or the rarer engraved rehaut.
The bracelets rattle on these older Rolex's, and while some watch's will look new after a service, the bracelet will still be worn. So buy on condition as always. And bezel prices have shot up so a service with a new bezel will be >£1k I would say.

Oh good god, I've opened up a can of worms in my OCD head that deliberates every last minor detail before a purchase. I stumbled across this page...

A friend of mine says I should just buy the latest year I can get my hands on in the best condition possible. Shrewd advice, or are there any other sweet spots I should consider?

The LV16610 is the one to get. I have one I bought years ago and have barely worn, it's such a nice watch but I usually wear a Daytona.
Yep, I got shot of my Sub. The Daytona is a far better watch to wear, sits much better on the wrist with its lower profile it attracts less dings and is less obtrusive . Investment, not really its a watch.
Personally i reckon the LV will appreciate more so than the Batman Gmt.
If you want an investment watch go for the last of the 16710 Gmt 2's with the 3186 movement in. The batman Gmt has that movement . It was fitted to some of the last of the alloy bezel Gmt 2's.
Finding one at a decent price is tough.
Batman's will hover around the 7.5 mark for a wee bit longer as at this price its lot of money.
Then again i could be totally wrong. Out of the two i'd plonk for an early Lv.

To conclude this thread, I went to see a lot of LV's, and TBH the ones in my budget weren't hitting the spot in the condition stakes. For a minter you need north of £8k, anything less and there were condition/provenance compromises, not something I was willing to accept for that amount of money, especially as it would make up a pair with my DJ2 that is mint.
I therefore opted for a brand new BLNR, which I am very pleased with. Pic in the wrist check thread for those that are interested.
Thanks again for the replies, much appreciated.
