Same money, same age, same miles. Identical spec.

Ford Focus ST-3 Or Mk5 Golf GTI?

Which would you have as a daily?

The focus ST-3 for me and funnily enough I've been looking at them to replace my 330i.

The Golf GTi comes highly regarded too and either is a decent motor I reckon.

There's positives and negatives for each. I like the focus because of it's engine, plus parts are generally a little cheaper. I also like the Golf because it should be cheaper day/day plus it's discreet.

Mk5 Golf GTI for me.

Will potentially hold its value more if that's important to you

That doesn't worry me, as either one may end up becoming a track car (depending on what replaces it/or not)

Yes the Golf is perhaps more grown up and the ST has more of a boy racer image possibly.

I'm a Ford fan boy so that's one of the reasons I prefer the ST and rightly or wrongly I find Golf's a tad sensible and slightly boring.

The Golf has a more upmarket feeling interior though but a slightly more generic engine.

Personally I prefer the Golf, although the driving position in STs (due to the minimum seat height) is a factor in that. Might be an easy fix for that though?

Asbo orange focus ST-3. To me the golf GTI does not seem as exclusive imo. I feel as though there are more of them around. However if a leon cupra BTCC was added into the mix I'd probably go for that because of it being rarer. Of course it has to be in bright yellow.

Both great but Focus would win it for me , it is surprisingly nice to pootle around in but the noise and feel when you push on are just a bit more characterful (I assume we are talking Volvo engined ST).

Focus, the driving dynamics compared to the VAG stuff is in a different league.

Focus. The Golf is a bit boring for my liking and sounds like a hairdryer.

The Focus is very playful as standard. Both cars can be made into formidable weapons if you are going to make it a track car. The focus sounds excellent when modded.

I've got a 265 Megane RS, but due to a change in circumstances I need to change it. I've only ever had 4pot engines, and I like the idea of having something that sounds a little different, and looks good.

It will be a predominantly a daily, but it will be used occasionally on track too. So I want something that has decent manners on track for when I stick some track tires on it.

Now to find a facelift Focus without galatic miles and decent history.
