Selling Car - but out of the country?

I need to sell one of my cars but I'm going to be out of the country for a couple of weeks. Since I'm the registered owner on the V5C is there any way my wife could handle the sale in my absence?

Its only a couple of weeks and I've not posted the add yet so unlikely it will progress that quick, but wondering if I have any other options?

There is finance on it and sale prices is hopefully in the region of £33k so not one to mess up!

I guess you could pre-sign the V5 and leave it with your wife, which sorts out the paperwork.

You may need to address the following points -

Any advert which contains the text "I am currently out of the country..." or similar may set a lot of people's scam sensors off and reduce the number of reactions.

Your wife will have to cope with any/all visitors. With a vehicle in the price class you mention, the chance of a wrong 'un may be lower, but you never know...

It's not something I would feel comfortable doing.

Just do the change of owner online, its instant and no need to post or sign anything, you get two options, you can either allocate it to a private person or move it into the trade.

Just get the right one as its bloody annoying if a private seller allocates us as the owner, we then have to write to the dvla and get ourselves removed.

As long as it's sold from the same address it wouldn't worry me as a buyer.

Afterall the V5 states it doesn't prove ownership anyway.
