I'm on a stag do next weekend at the Santa Pod Euro Finals and into Northampton on the Saturday night, None of us are from round that way and we are a bit worried about getting into the pubs, especially with the Stag dressed up like a complete tosser (no change there!)
Does anyone know the names of a few establishments I could try to contact? or any advice on bars that might let us in??

Cheers

this will not help you much.........

I had the misfortune to live in Northampton (1995 - 1997) and always found the bars (in the town centre) very picky about who they let in, especially blokes. Plus, there seems to be some tension in the air in Northampton.......like its about to all kick off.

Did not like it. But then again it could make for an interesting stag do.

As you can see that was some years ago, things might have changed, no doubt someone will put me right.

Whenever I could I would go back 'home' (Romsey, Hampshire) for a night on the beer.

Mag,

I live near Northampton, but I've not gone out in the town center for years (work in London, so no contest).

However, the mythical Welly (Wellingborough) Road pub crawl is a must. Some of the pubs a bit further out are ok for stag do's.

Other than that, Chris's comments are true about some of more 'classy' - use that term very loosely pubs will turn you away.

Depending on the night you may want to try Visage (if it's still there - opposite Calsberg), its crappy chain night club but plenty of meat.

If you can get in the Fish Inn, that would be a bonus since they've an excellent selection of real lager and beer (read strong and Belgian).

Enjoy

I lived in Northants from 1980-1994, moved away, then moved back a couple of years ago. I’d agreed with 135sport that Northampton used to be full of crap bars with picky entrance policies and have a generally dodge atmosphere. Recently I’ve been going out there again maybe once a month and I reckon it’s definitely improved. Loads of new bars/clubs have opened and most of the old sh!t ones have disappeared. The atmosphere now seems a little more “cosmopolitan”.

Went out on a stag do there last month. 20 pissed blokes with silly stick on moustaches and a stag (naturally dressed as a complete tosser). Had absolutely no trouble getting into any of the bars. Ended up in a club called Time & Envy, maybe we were just lucky that night, but the male female ratio in that place was fantastic – managed to get the stag in several rather compromising situations with willing young ladies.

Your best bet is probably to head for Bridge Street in the centre which seems to have the most bars (sorry, not sure of the names). Other than that, 2 other main clubs: Lux – slightly more expensive and maybe not quite the right atmosphere for a stag party; Chicago Rock Café – never been, but it’s just been refurbished and always seems to have a long queue.

Ok, Northampton is never going to be London, or even Nottingham, but it’s better than it used to be.

Have fun

welly road is stag night central with loads of pubs right next to each other - if u make it into town you should go to bridge street where theres decadance and revolution which are quite funky bars open till 1. If u want clubs they're all of the no trainers and some u even have to have collars in a wanky towny kind of way.

Northampton rocks for pubs theres millions of them but the clubs are fairly shite. I'd start at Sir pickering pips on welly road then work u're way into town - theres at least 20 pubs on route!

Cheers guy's, some useful advice.
Funny enough Time and Envy was one place we found on the web which we called and they said OK to a large bunch of blokes with one dressed silly (tried not to say Stag!)
The fact that tsteenholdt went in a stag party and made a few places is a great relief, I was worried we would end up stranded in some dodgy old boozer.
Thanks again, looking forward to it now!!
