Well I've been doing a fair bit of my own research and thought I'd ask here to see if I've missed anything. Also for my plans to be ripped to shreds, but that's PH
Basically which cars should I be looking at?
I want a <50g/km car as I can run this fairly cheaply through my Ltd company and lower my BIK tax. I do around 60-80 miles a day commute (changes depending on the traffic) and it's all motorway except the first mile and last couple of miles, it's in the South East so there's plenty of time stuck in traffic and stop/go queuing.
So far so easy, it's a Leaf/i3 or similar.
However I also do a 520 mile round trip up to Yorkshire every other weekend. A Tesla 90D seems like it'll just about do this, I'm hoping Tesla lend me one for a weekend to try it. My journeys are Friday evening and Sunday afternoon and I've measured 44mph average on my outbound journey and 55mph on my return. Roads are mainly motorway but then a good 20-30 miles of Yorkshire B roads at the end.
Because this journey is a Friday night and pretty boring along with the standard Friday night traffic, some element of advanced driving assistance would be nice (I'm not expecting to have a nap on the way).
The only competitor to the Tesla for my needs at the moment seems to be the Mercedes E350e. Advantage is that it'll easily do the range, it's half the price of the Tesla and the interior/options are much nicer. Disadvantage is that it'll still cost me a fair bit in fuel a year (35-40mpg without battery input according to my local Mercedes dealer, 18 mile range of the battery if you're lucky).
To further complicate things I currently have no way of charging a car at home or at work. Work never will have and home may also be a bit of a challenge (will post a thread in Home, DIY for opinions on that one)! So it may end up being a hybrid where I rely on the car self charging the battery or the battery is never used.
Am I missing anything? The BMW 330e doesn't seem to have the driver assists and there isn't a 5 series e yet.
