Ferrari F430 arrives in UK

RHD debut made at Goodwood Festival of Speed briefing

The first Ferrari F430 to turn a wheel in the UK has arrived. It made its UK debut at Goodwood House during a press briefing for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Around 400 F430s will arrive in the UK this year – both Spiders and Coupés but this Coupé in Rosso Corsa with Crema interior is the first car to be driven in this country.

With a top speed in excess of 196 mph, the car is powered by an all-new 4.3-litre engine producing 490hp. The 0-62 mph sprint takes exactly four seconds, said Ferrari. Technology lies at the heart of this car transferring directly from Formula 1; the F430 features the world’s first road car use of the ‘Manettino’ (steering wheel mounted switch to control vehicle set-up) and E-diff (electronic differential).

The car was officially presented during the Paris Motor Show in September 2004, but this car is the first right-hand drive example to arrive in the UK.

Ferrari's UK boss Massimo Fedeli said, "The Ferrari F430 has raised the benchmark for all round performance in GT road cars and we’re proud to show the very first British car in action here at Goodwood. The historic setting makes a fitting venue for a car that will bring a whole new driving experience to Ferrari customers.

"In 2005 Ferrari is delighted to be sponsoring the Goodwood Festival of Speed and we will bring a host of stunning cars for the visitors to enjoy – plus a surprise or two."

The UK is the third largest market for Ferrari worldwide. The USA receives the greatest allocation of new cars, followed by Germany.

Enrico Bertaggia, the former Formula 1, Formula 2 and GT driver will drive the car in two demonstration runs up Goodwood Hill when he also makes his public debut as the new chief driving instructor for Ferrari Maserati UK.

Saw a few of these in Europe last month, looked fantastic. Which PHers have got F430s on order? and when can we expect to see them?

Looks good from all angles. Sadly a little over budget

It would look even better if the front wheels were 100mm further forward... Why can't the current Ferrari stylists take a couple of steps back from the neat details they are designing, and think about the proportions?

Fair comment but isn't it more important to achieve a shorter wheelbase and thus improve handling?

Either change the wheelbase to suit the styling, or the styling to suit the wheelbase - either way they don't match up to my eyes.

Hmm, I'm sure I saw one of these about a month ago in St Albans... maybe my eyes we playing tricks but it definately had those rear lights and wasn't an Enzo.
Nose looks too long and I don't like the styling of the front air intakes either, they don't fit with the rest of the car.
I bet it's wonderful to drive though

I don't think that is the "first" Ferrari F430 to turn a wheel in the UK!!!

Stunning car

Not withstanding the fact that under no circumstances what so ever will I be able to afford such a car, cant help thinking that from an aesthetic perspective, the F430 is a stepback from the 360 ?

I mean those rear air intakes & Enzo lamp clusters...

The 360 was a massive success because it was reasonably cheap and there were loads of them, but I feel that the way Ferrari are only sending limited numbers will kill it a bit.
I think you’re right about those front air intakes!! They've designed it to breathe loads of air on to the brake discs and calipers but it’s compromised the vicious look that Ferrari were looking for. Chrome or mesh,
Not mat plastics!!!

From certain angles it looks the business. But the second picture in this article, the one that is front-on, it looks like it should be green and singing with Paul McCartney

I saw a 430 on the road last week and, just like the first time I saw an Enzo in the flesh, was amazed at how little justice photographs do to the car.

I'd have one.

I have a coupe on order. Now when's the launch party? I'd like to see it for myself before stumping up the remainder of the cash.

Looks like a Honda. *Personally* I don't think they've made a good looking car since the 355. I'm sure it goes, stops and handles better but Ferraris have always been about form as well as function. Check out the ugly back plastic at the back

edited to add, ok the 550 is quite nice

I always thought the 360 was a bit soft looking but the 430 has addressed that and in the flesh (sat in one a week ago) they are impressive but need the brake upgrade with red calipers to set the wheels off.

Got several mates getting them but in Oz they are charging (or is that gouging?) $40kAUD for the carbon ceramic upgrade and $6k to paint the calipers red !!!

Since when does red paint cost $6k more than black ??!!

The sport seats seem reasonable for $8k extra but at a starting price of $410K it doesn't take long to get to $500k here with the "nice" prices the local dealers are charging

Any idea what the option list prices are for you guys ?

Cheers

John

I was at Goodwood for the press day and comments earlier are right. The car needs to be seen, fantastic, stunning etc. etc.

It was sitting close to the Enzo which begs the question....which one would I have if I wono the lottery?

Also had a good look over the RR Sport and the new AM V8 Vantage, both great cars. Got loads of photos but can't find a way to upload them here?
