996 intermittent wipers don't work

Hi everyone,

I bought a 2003 996 coupe a couple of weeks ago & last weekend I discovered that the intermittent wipers don't work. I thought that it might be the relay that was at fault so I have just replaced it but the wipers still don't work on intermittent.

The wipers work perfectly on wash wipe & the other 2 speed settings, when I put the stalk into the intermittent position though the wipers sweep the screen once and don't do it again. I have tried various positions on the intermittent wiper control dial but it makes no difference.

Has anyone else experienced this and know how that I can fix it?

Yes, the same happened to mine when I had the windscreen replaced. I believe its the rain sensor behind the rear view mirror that got broken .

Just had this on ours, turned out the plug in the back of the dial had popped out (either that or it was accidentally removed when the stereo was removed).

I just pulled my dial out to check if the same had happened after the phone kit had been installed. After disconnecting the switch it does occasionally swipe the windscreen now, it does seem to be random though rather than not at all.

My car doesn't have the rain sensor on the screen by the way.

I had this problem too, I changed the interval knob first, then the relay box, and finally had to change the rain sensor eye on the screen behind the rear view mirror, it was caused by a screen change, the sensor got damaged, the resulting cost was about £650 for the sub loom / rain sensor, the auto dim rear view mirror AND the rain sensor are on the same loom, there's no workaround I found so it cost me £750 total after I had changed the knob/relay box first, which turned out not to be the problem.., changed the sensor/sub loom, sorted.., but an expensive fix..

I just fixed mine, it was the delay dial that had gone faulty. It was a nice cheap fix in the end
