Help, I've knackered my sat nav screen!

I must have had some sort of cleaning stuff on the rag, think it might have been window cleaning stuff. Anyway, it's knackered the (presumably anti reflection) coating on the screen.

I'm guessing you can't replace the screen, and it's a Mercedes COMAND II unit so v expensive to replace the entire unit.

Anything I can do to improve it?

If you can, remove the screen and use Peek metal polish to remove the rest of the AR coating. Then, get an anti reflective ipad adhesive cover and trim to fit. I did this when my BMW screen looked similar and it returned it to as new. Just takes a bit of and patience.

Either put some Blutack on it to anchor your smartphone for a much better technical job or find a model specific forum for advice on how to replace like-for-like

What you've probably done is scratched the anti reflective coating. It's total crap on any MB satnav screen. Even spit will cause it to come off.

Had two SL where this has happened. We ended up cleaning the remaining coating off with spit on a microfibre cloth and then a cottonbud to get into the edges. Omce you've removed it all it looks OK again.

Had thought about applying a cut down ipad screen protector but to be honest it's just fine as it is once you've removed the rest of the crap.

I had a look on their site - they show quite a few parts but no just screens. A whole new unit is hundreds of pounds even from them.

I suspect you're spot on about the anti reflective coating and the best route to 'repair' (just remove the rest of it). I'm just terrified of making it worse...

Well it's pretty fecked as it is so what other harm can it do. Try the spit option first before getting into anything harder like metal polish. That way you cause the least damage.

It looks bad when the light catches it, like in that photo. Most of the time it looks okay. That said, it is irritating when the light does catch it.

Just worried about making it (even) worse I guess...

Umm- I wonder if you could wipe it over with some of that water soluble floor shine you use on laminate floors? Its quite good at masking scratches and wear. Just a thought.
