Accelerator cable replacement
Discussion
Just replaced inner and outer throttle cable on my Exige - imagine Elise will be v similar - bit of a pig of a job... as you have to take off undertrays, centre console and be upside down in the footwell. It took me approx 4 hrs in toto on my drive - reckon Lotus garage should be able to halve this time. Inner and Outer cable cost £48 from Lotus
Make sure you get the fibre washers replaced at the throttle pedal end - can't believe transformation in throttle feel and response since replacement

Clanger,
I've noticed the throttle pedal is a bit squishy on my S1 of late. I seem to have a rubber grommet at the end of the cable that squashes when I depress the pedal.
You talk about fibre washers - these sound much better. What are they and can I fit them while the cable is already in place?
Cheers

If you get your head into the footwell of the car - you'll see the bracket attached to the pedal at one end and the throttle cable at the other. This bracket rotates on a bolt. Fibre washers are located either side of the bracket and a fibre insert is within the bracket (all there I presume to reduce friction) - prob is they all wear and the whole mechanism becomes very sloppy - replace them and response and feel is so much better - can't understand why the washers and insert are not brass to reduce wear
Cheers

Cheers Clanger,
I think I know what you mean and it's a job I've been meaning to do for a while. I understand you can get a brass "top hat" bush that make a big difference.
My problem is at the end of the cable it's self. There is a rubber crommet just after the cable end ferule that squashes as the pedal is pressed. I guess it's just there as a damper? It seems really squashy though and takes a lot of feel away from the pedal.
I hate to say it but it's easier to blip the throttle on my Fiesta Zetec S!
I think it might just be perishing and needs replacing.
Cheers for your thoughts
