Let's hope so, JV was very poor in the last 3 races with Renault last season and looked like a rookie out of his depth in Australia. Davidson deserves a chance (hopefully BAR won't block him) and the Sauber looks a decent car (if driven by Massa, not JV).

They mention JV's best race lap time being 9 tenths of a second slower than Massa's (Massa 1 stopped, JV did a 2 stop race).

Yet they don't mention the 1.6s gap between Jenson Button's fastest race lap time and Takuma Sato's best (which was slower than Villeneuve). I think BAR will be keeping a tight grip on Davidson for now.

Maybe BAR has to use Sato as part of the engine deal?

I always thought JV was an overrated little hobbit.

Be good to see Davidson actually in a car on a Sunday !

Seeing as how he has been one of only a select few that Schumacher has actually been afraid of in F1 for the last ten year I can't really see how he has ever been over-rated! (See last round of 1997 for proof of the panic!)

I think that he has been out of the F1 game for a touch too long and it's moved on and he's not in touch anymore. And besides, I still don't think the Sauber is all that, so he maybe is struggling somewhat.

I reckon JV should go back to Champ Cars and start a resurgence there. He could help it to finally nail the lid on the IRL coffin (somebody do that, please!!) and win races again.

He's one of the few drivers who really doesn't give a shit about all the bullshit that F1 has become in the last decade. If there were more drivers like that in the sport maybe the crap racing wouldn't be so much of an issue.

Sauber's Friday practice times.

Felipe Massa - 1m35.608 (Heading the timesheet)

Jacques Villenueve - 1m38.121s (18th quickest)

Real speed difference or has Peter Sauber deliberately got Massa running on very low fuel and Villeneuve on heavy fuel to show up Villeneuve to get him out?

Wonder if its a question of motivation?

I mean, Sauber may be a decent package but it's hardly a front running opportunity.

Villeneuve has always had brittle motivation IMO. Some times he is up for it, sometimes you wonder if he has bothered turning up.

After all, he was pretty flaky at BAR even allowing for a crappy car at times.

Sauber is an opportunity for solid points scoring, and a platform to get into a top 3 team. Do well there and he could end up at Ferrari.

It won't happen though, because JV is simply not up to it IMO.

He won the championship at Williams in the best car at the time, and indeed won it inspite of his poor decision making, car set up and teamwork. He made winning races at Williams much harder than it should have been IMO.

Sorry, but I really don't rate him at all.

Well I think that's JV out then - and good riddance to the baggy clothed grunge monkey....

I do believe he's very tallented but just got it all too soon and isn't focused to deliver...

JV is a legend, it is good to see familiar faces like his still driving in formula one given the new wave of ubiquitous young drivers taking over.

The Villenueve name is to F1 what Andretti is to Champ cars, a true character and it will be a shame when he eventually leaves.

I would love to see him given one last chance with a top team, perhaps partnering MS at Ferrari (that would be very intresting!)

You are having a laugh aren't you?

Gilles was a name to be remembered, sure, but JV? I don't think so.

VJ is indeed a legand, and currently the worlds no.1 golfer, JV on the other hand...
