I know this has been discussed before but couldn't find it.

If your on your own in the middle of nowhere and spin on a patch of oil and have a crash because of the oil - do you have any grounds on sueing the local council???

I would guess only if you can show negligence. I think you would have to show the council were aware of the problem and did not remedy it in a reasonable time.

In July you were happy to see Claim Direct go under on the basis of stupid claims being made by numpties... now you want to know if you can sue the council for you skidding on oil?

Is no one prepared to take responsibility for their own actions and accept that there are risks in life any more?

Ouch!
It's not me that has crashed - but have you ever tried to drive on a diesel spill? I think driving on ice is easier - i've tried both...

If some muppet spills a load on the road and causes the serious injury or death of another party what happens then...

Me too, on a motorbike and, no, it isn't easy. Nevertheless risks do exist when you we venture forth and if you don't accept them and simply claim for damages everytime something goes wrong then you're just perpetuating the slide towards a litigious society which, I think we all agree, is something we don't want.

I'm all for chasing up anyone who spills oil or diesel on the roads regardless of whether or not an accident is caused but just simply suing the council is a cop out and frankly I, for one, would not want my tax money going to pay for car repairs for people who drive on the limit all the time and don't give themselves any margin for this sort of thing or who just can't be *rsed to look where they are going.

Just my 2p.
