Miles and value
Discussion
I bought my 2007 997.1 in late July at about 62500 miles. Three and a bit months later, I've done 5000 miles. It's my daily car and I don't have any others
At what point is too many miles going to really badly affect value and saleability of the car? I'm expecting ting to keep the car at least 3 yrs.
The majority of my miles have been easy M road miles

I did an analysis of this last year - for 996's - when looking to buy and came to the conclusion it is a straight line correlation between miles and price.
This was only for manual coupes, C4 and C2. Snapshot of what was available at about late september 2015, across as many classified sites as possible.
Quickly realised that it was unrealistic to pick up a <100k mile car for <10k pounds.

I love driving the damn thing. Obviously it is less enjoyable on a standard M road journey but fun nonetheless. And the costs of getting a third car for everyday use (wife exclusively drives the second) are going to be sizeable. So maybe cheaper overall to just keep piling on the miles.
Hmmm

At the current rate of 20k miles a year you'll probably drop the value by £2-3k versus sticking 10k miles a year on the car (assuming you sell at year 3).
I've been using a 911 as a DD for nearly 6 years and wouldn't change that. I do about 11k miles a year. That's despite having a suitable diesel third car, FWIW.

2-3k extra at the end of year 3 or 2-3k extra per year?
Genuine question - I have very little knowledge on porsche in general and much less on values, mechanicals etc
I haven't looked into 997.1 stats extensively, but from my brief readings, a 2007 car that has not failed at 67k miles is unlikely to go pop. But this thread isn't really about that. This thread assumes the engine stays in tact
I didn't buy it expecting it to appreciate in 3 years, however, am not expecting to halve in value either. Maybe it might halve if it's 100k+ by the end of year 3. Dunno

Hmmm, previous owner of mine (997.1) got to about 67k, then guess what happened.....Dunno
Doing 20k pa over 3 years will drop less in value than going out and buying a new Audi TT and watching the first 12 months drop in value. Keep on enjoying the car, and when it gets to 100k, regard it as worthless and drive another 100k. When it gets to 200k, look back and it will have worked out at pretty good value.
