Insurance Shocker
Discussion
Sorry for the boring thread, but I am hoping someone will be able to suggest 'friendly' insurers who I can get a quote from for my new RRS before it arrives at the end of the year.
I'm currently driving a 2015 Audi S3 Saloon which (fully comp, full NCD protected) is attracting lots of quotes on Compare The Ferret of about £335.00pa. I've just put in my RRS and hardly any quotes came back and the best of those that did was £994!!!
I know that a £73k RRS is not a £36k Audi, but I've never paid a penny over £600pa insurance in my life - and even then, it was a silly car at a silly age. Surely I can get better than a grand??
I put that the car had a tracker (comes fitted with the incontrol secure option), but that made no difference.
Can anyone point me in the right direction before I panic and cancel my order?
The RRS is supposed to be my 'sensible' choice to relax and enjoy the commute in for a few years, but so far it's starting to seem excruciatingly expensive. Waiting for the Audi RS3 Saloon is starting to seem like the sensible option!!

Highly desirable car by scum car thieves drives up insurance premiums shocker.
It is what it is I'm afraid. I had to go all over the place to get my Disco 4 commercial insured because it was over 50k.
My Dad had to jump through hoops to get his RRS insured, the dealer didn't help much by faffing around getting the tracker registered in good time.
Suck it up, once you have the car it is well worth it IMHO.

Try Directline. My £100k FFRR MY2016 30k miles pa inc. business with the InControl tracker is less than £700. I have three other cars insured with them all at good rates and they provide a discount for each additional car. Make sure you call DL for the best quote rather than just going for an online quote. I've found their advisors to be really helpful and will offer a better deal.

Good tip, I will try them. Might save a few quid. Didn't realise they were so stealable. Should I expect to wake up one morning and find my RRS gone?
Guess I'm a bit naive these days - didn't think car thefts were that common anymore, let alone a specific vehicle being 'popular' among gifts. Sorry 'thieves'.
Does the InControl Secure count as a full tracker for insurance? Just checked and as you say, it's Cat6.
I know it may seem silly to think that I am going to so much effort for cheaper insurance, but that's generally by people who think that if you can afford a £73k car that you must be happy to pay whatever is asked for trackers, insurance etc. In my experience, the people who can afford these cars can afford them because they DON'T just throw money around.

Direct Line accept the InControl as equivalent to a Tracker. It's all that is on my MY16 FFRR. You do need to supply proof that it's fitted. DL accepted the email I received from LR activating the InControl when I first bought it. Also, LR products are far less nickable than they were a couple of years ago. LR have solved the problem that allowed thieves to programme a new key once they got entry to the vehicle. They changed the module so that it could not be used to programme a new key. This means that if you lose your key(s) LR have to fit a whole new module in the vehicle (at their cost). Suggest you check this out with the dealer if you want piece of mind.
Good info, cheers Phil. Certainly put my mind at rest after reading some of the threads on here the last few days!
Also managed to get a quote from More Than for £450 by going direct. That's despite Compare The Market telling me in large letters I wouldn't get a better quote by going direct. Ha ha. £200 less than the one served out by CTM. All details double and triple checked and the quote is legit. That's with no additional tracker stuff required, too.
Phew!

Had exactly the same suprise was i'm paying less than £500 for my F10 M5 (with mods) but have been quoted just under £1k for the FFRR.
Didn't think about ticking the 'car has Tracker' so that may reduce it a little when the car arrives.

Try LR's own insurance.
Covers all repairs via LR dealers and approved body shops plus fully insured for off road driving which most others don't. Ours costs just under £700.
On my 20158 RS4 I was paying just under £500 a year, when swapping to my RRS I was charged an extra £54 for the remainder of the policy (to the middle of January). Out of the £54, there was a £25 "Admin Fee", so the £29 for 2.5 months reverse engineered equals an annual premium for the RRS would have been £639, which given the current security issues I didn't think was too bad.
LR insurance were a joke, at the end of the call to get the 7 day free insurance, they quoted me £1700.

Bit off topic but have you come out of an RS4 into an RRS? My RS4 is due for a change soon and I'm considering an RRS (among other stuff) as a daily driver, reasonable amount of motorway work and lugging people, bikes and golf gear. I am sick of the economy on the RS4 but that is the only gripe really and am tempted to go for a D3 Alpina but also like the RRS and would appreciate your thoughts.LR insurance were a joke, at the end of the call to get the 7 day free insurance, they quoted me £1700.

t we carry around when our dog was in the boot. For the past 3-4months I was looking for something bigger that was still felt special and sporty that could carry 2 kids, the dog, buggy etc. SQ7, A6 BiTDi, E63 S, RS6, Passat BiTDi, Passat All-track, Skoda Superb 280 sportline, XC90 T8 Hybrid, Cayenne Turbo, Macan GTS, R36, V70 R, you name it, chances are I've considered it and rejected it for for various reasons (normally due to space practicality). The RS6 and SQ7 have frightening levels of depreciation, so I started researching alternatives. It was by pure accident and a last resort that I test drove the RRS. I wish I'd have known then what I know now... The RRS SDV6 is so torqey (700nm!) and in Dynamic mode it pulls like a train. Nothing else in its class on the market can match it for practicality and pace.
I ended up doing a deal on a lightly used MY16 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic which had some nice options added (TV, dual front screen, 5+2 seats etc). So far I've had no regrets, it feels special, has lots of toys, goes well (ok it's not RS pace, but the Torque makes it quicker lower down the revs) and it's is very practical. Best of all on the motorway it'll do 40mpg (30mpg around town), and it has the best levels of residual values I could find on anything.
Hope that helps/
