I love driving my Cayman

Want to spread some positive vibes…

Took my 987 Cayman S out today for a 5 minute drive to a supplier - and decided to take the 20 minute ‘twisty’ route home

I absolutely LOVE driving my Cayman. The noise (especially from 5.5k to 7.2k) from the flat six (*1)
the poise from the chassis, the grip, brakes, the smell. You name it, it is amazing. There may be faster/newer/etc cars out there but I can thrash this beauty around and it is an amazing event, every time.

It is more competent than I am, so there is always more to learn.
I have been out in a friends GT4, and while faster, mine is smaller & more nimble for these South Wales roads. Its raw, fun, fun, cheap, and FUN!

These cars rock - this drive was a real highlight and I cannot wait for the next one.

I totally agree with your sentiment I have a 987 Boxster Spyder and I like it so much I haven't used the Ferrari much over the summer so I have just sold it.

They are the right size for our roads, nimble and zippy and just fun.

Sublime cars. I reckon if your Cayman S had been manufactured in 2016 as a new model and entered Ecoty it would have perhaps have good chance of winning! Perfect blend of power and handling. Does make me wonder whether all the cognoscenti cooing about the way a 911 R drives have ever driven a 987 Cayman. Looks wise its ageing brilliantly IMO.

I've had my 987.2 CS for five years which is the longest I've ever owned a car it's just recently passed 16k miles so there's a lot of life left in it, I don't see the point in dumping the thick end of £40k into a 981 Cayman GTS or heaven forbid a 718 when the 987 drives so bloody well OK it will still need to be maintained to keep it tip top but I'd rather put money into my car as I like it so much.

I'am in for the long haul with my 987.

Mine's not a daily driver but I use it once or twice a week for the work run. On those days I always choose the cross country route (25 miles). It's too much fun to save it only for the weekends.

For the last 3 weeks I've been thinking about switching away from my Cayman S to an SUV - don't ask, just thought it was a scratch I needed to itch. I've looked at the F-Pace, Macan and Audi SQ5. As I was about to pull the trigger this morning, the sales guy looking at my car to get the PX value said he wanted to take it out for a short drive to make sure everything was fine (the only one who has wanted to do that out of 3 or 4 but lucky for me he did!).

When we got back and he went to work on the numbers, I realised that no-way was I ready to part with it. It's the kind of car I've wanted since being a kid - all black, low, small, curvy (!).... Anyway - I left in a very apologetic rush and have been very glad all day. I'm now going to go on the driving experience I promised myself when I bought it 15 months ago - thinking the 1/2 day at Silverstone for a starter. I know I've never been able to do it justice when I take it out - even though it's my every day car - and even though most of the time there's too much traffic or crappy weather, I'd love to be a bit more adventurous and at least know what it could do if I was brave enough! Judging by the feedback on here, it's definitely worth doing.



Anyway - just wanted to share the love for my Cayman - soooo pleased it's still mine!!!!

You know something? I understand your thinking process. Luckily we have both (an Audi Q5 S-line Plus) so I get to spend time in the Q5 as well. Every time I do, I remark how much I like it. It's a proper (and sometimes welcome) contrast. So I don't blame you for considering a swap if you can only justify one car. Have you thought about keeping the Porsche and buying a lower priced SUV as well?

Put it this way - every time I get out of my car I think, "I love that car"; and every time I get out of the Q5 I think, "I love that car".
