Couple of minor 3200 things
Discussion
The badge on my steering wheel is a bit tatty. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement and if this is a diy job. Also noticed the later cars have a chrome surround - can this be fitted to my early model (black surround).
Also I have an annoying thing with the boot. There is some wiring that is covered by a rubber tube to the top left when you open the boot. When I shut the boot it gets stuck in the gap between boot and surround so that the rubber cover pokes up in the panel gap when boot is shut. Anyone had this? Any fixes?

Just noticed this thread - You can fix the rubber conduit problem by using a cable tie (or moving the factory fitted item) to secure it to the top of the boot hinge bracket thus leaving the bottom free to find its natural place. If the conduit is not hanging properly, you can play around with the cable tie to get the right fit.
Re the Maser badge on the tiller, you may have to renew the whole wheel centre which is not cheap. However, definitely worth giving Eurospares a call for the badge as they always seem to have a good stock and don't charge silly money.

Thanks Nigelo, will try a cable tie.
On the badge I phoned Eurospares recently and they have an airbag unit which they wont take the badge off for obvious reasons. They do have a 3200 coming in next week where the bag has gone off so that might be a possibility.
Do you reckon you can change the badge without affecting the airbag? Meridien hadn't done it before but thought it should be possible as the airbag unit is common to a number of cars - just has different badge.

Have not done it myself but think yes with EXTREME caution. The airbag literally contains an explosive charge so you MUST, repeat MUST, isolate the battery first and then wait say 20 minutes to ensure the circuitry is completely dead.
Strongly suggest speaking with James at Eurospares once he has removed his from a deployed (therefore safe) airbag. Otherwise, carefully prise off the old badge taking care not to mark the surround - Refit new item with suitable contact adhesive (evostick, Uhu etc) but NOT superglue as it could damage the surround and possibly the airbag / charge underneath rendering it unsafe.
When finished, reconnect battery isolation switch and as a safety precaution, turn ignition on at arms length whilst standing OUTSIDE the car just in case the airbag deploys.
Do excercise extreme care as mistakes could be fatal (eg head between seat and wheel when bag goes off)
