lads oh lads oh lads,

i want to know which driver you'd pick to be a pssenger with for a hot lap of the 'Ring. I know there's the nurburgring taxi, driven by some bird who does 8 minute laps in a m5 but i think i'd rather ride with tiff in an R34 or m3 csl.

your comments please!

I took a ride round the brands hatch GP circuit with the Evo bloke John Hayden, now we were only in a little Clio 172 and id been playing all day in R500 yet he drove the arse off yumping over the kerbs and peddling this thing so hard that a ferrari 355 couldnt get away in 4 laps and an M3 (e36) couldnt get by.

So probly him or perhaps Sebastian Loab the Citroen WRC driver he is amazing on Tarmac and as the ring is like a tarmac rally stage so beside him in the WRC rally car unless perhaps Derek Bell in a Porker 956 offerd!!!!

I'd choose Walter Röhrl in a 250LM for a passenger ride.

The bird you refer to (Sabine Schmitz) does passenger laps at the ring in an M5 "Taxi". Insurers won't let her drive quicker than 9.30. Accordingly she drives the straight sections rather slowly at times!!. Even at this pace she does a set of tyres in every 10 dry laps. (Yes she can do an 8 minute lap in the M5). Incidently she has never crashed a car at the ring with a passenger on board.

I am advised she can put the car sideways around every single corner and if you want some real fun go out with her in the wet.

I'd pick the "bird" anytime. Unfortunately she is booked up a long time in advance.

DAZ

PS1 - At the age of 19 she took the lap record in a production car a 4WD Ford cosworth. She has also twice been in the Nurburgring 24 hour race winning team.

PS2 - She is also a fit blonde who owns a pub.

He's called Stefan Roser, and he wears white socks You can see his feet in some of the footage from the Ruf vid.

V good driver though! He gets through a set of tyres every two laps, then probably buggers off for a pint and some howsyourfather with Sabrine.

I'd pick the bird too, and in fact have done twice - once in the soaking wet, once in the dry. It's a unique experience to be driven round seriously fast by a sexy bit of stuff

To jump sideways over Quiddelbacher bridge at over 100mph in the soaking wet was an experience I'll never forget - she just has such complete confidence

Dazren probably meant to say she's not supposed to go round quicker than 8.30 (not 9.30). 8.30 is still plenty fast though, particularly for a car weighing over 1800kgs with four people on board in luxurious comfort.

Stefan Roser would be spectacular, but interesting if he would be faster than the bird. put the bird in a race car, and she's won more trophies on the Ring and elsewhere than you can count.

Walther Rohrl I guess would be the fastest and would be fantastic in a GT3, but I still love the bird experience coz it's something a bit different.

I read 9.30 somewhere, but I'll stand corrected by someone who has actually done some laps with her.

Out of interest how long did you have to book in advance?

cheers

Both laps I got were cancellations on different trips -like you say I think the thing get's booked up a year in advance, but on a wet day, you quite often find some bookings don't show, and if you happened to have spent a lot of time in Sabine's pub the night before and asked nicely...

The wet lap is deffo the one to go for imo - plenty people can drive quick round the Ring in the dry once experienced, but very few have the balls to drive quick in the wet it's such a mega slippery surface, but Sabine has balls the size of a rhinoceros Fanbloodytastic!

I would go for Walther Rohrl in a Audi Coupe S2 600BHP
or Martin Brindel in a Jag XK220 cause he set the top speed record on that car and did some realy fast laps at the ring.

Have a look at my profile and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out which one'll be blasting through belgium next week on my 2nd trip to the ring!

We'll also have a red 360 trying (ahem!!!!) to keep up.

Never thought I'd go to the ring hoping for bad weather.

I've been thinking about this all morning. Here are my suggestions.

I would pick Horst von Saurma who lapped the 'ring in 7,43,4, an average of 161 km/h in a TechArt 996 GT2 rated at 600+ BHP in 2001. He, IIRC, is the chief writer for German mag Sport Auto and is a bit of a tasty driver to boot!

My other choice would be Dirk Shoysman who managed to lap the ring in 7, 59 in an allegedly stock R33 skyline!!

Oh and Daz, any chance of a lift to the ring next time you go? We could have a couple of scoops with said pub-owning and M5-driving 'bird!'

Cheers

I'm afraid this trip my younger brother's got the passenger seat, I've also promised a few others passenger laps. If you're at the ring at the same time as me then no problem.

Message to "Fer"
The guy who runs the website you refered to has agreed to sit in the passenger seat and show me where to cut a few corners! Should be good considering he's done over 1,000 laps and has had advice from amonst others the pub owning taxi driver.

cheers

Stig, behave - you haven't even seen her armpits yet!

As for a driver, I'd have to pick Derek Bell in a 956, the video of him doing the 4th fastest lap ever (behind Jacky Ickx in another 956) was temptation enough!

Are we not forgetting an obvious candidate here?

How about Getting a ride from VBH in the Ford Rally Transit Van?

She could hammer it round the track until you find some nice, quiet, secluded corner. Then you could pull over and jump into the previously (and strategically) placed bed in the back! Thats one lap that I wouldn't mind taking longer than nine minutes.....

If you wanted to be really greedy you good position yourself (ahem) in such a way with a view out the rear windows to watch the passing exotica.......
