Cheapest car for 10kpa Commute

Afternoon All.
I'm shortly going to hand back my Renault Zoe which i use for commuting, approx 10k pa.
Currently I'm paying about £200 per month + £20 insurance. I charge at work and it's tax / mot free so total running cost per year for 10k miles = £2640. I've had it over 2 yrs, so it's cost me £5280 in total - however I'm handing it back and have nothing to show for over £5k worth of payments.
My other car (family wagon) is a Dacia Logan which I'm pretty fond of and returns almost 70mpg.
For the £5k I've spent on the Renault I could almost have paid off a new Dacia Sandero (not counting petrol costs) and have a 2 yr old fully paid off car to show for it.
I don't really care what I drive for my commute, work involves a lot of housecalls in a fairly rough area, so it's asking for trouble to have something fancy.
Any ideas out there as to what's the cheapest possible option for me to replace my Zoe with?
Considered bangernomics, but I want something I know I can jump into each day and will work as the wife and kids use the other car so not really an option to take that, and no car = no work for me!
All thoughts' considered.

I've got a leased Fiesta on £120 per month (£720 up front) on a 10k per year contract. It's capable of 60mpg. Can't get much cheaper than that unless you start looking at Smart cars or a Citroen C1.
That's still £3500 over 2 years though, so when the lease expires I'm looking at spending around £3000 on a second hand car to get me to work and back. After 2 years it will hopefully be worth £1K, as opposed to the leased Fiesta which is worth precisely £0.00 when the lease finishes.
Obviously you can go even cheaper than that but you've mentioned you don't want to gamble with reliability.

Best = cheapest! It's tax free and gets good mpg, and I've no complaints about Dacia - it's not a merc, but you get what you pay for, or is there something hiding out there that's even cheaper to buy?

With a 6k budget why not go for the car the Dacia is based on, which is the Clio.

Edit: Or you can buy one like the above - my brother just went for a 2013 Leaf and got £1000 off, 0%, free charger, 1 year warranty (he extended to 3) and 2yrs servicing. If you can live with the range (which presumably you can) I can't see how you could get cheaper, stress free motoring - especially if you can charge at work!

This is something I spend a lot of time trying to work out, the cheapest way to own a car with the least amount of hassle possible. I have investigated most of the cheapest new cars on sale but most of these don't come with remote central locking, which for me is a deal breaker.
i.e Hyundai i10 is £7,995 and I have seen the Fiat Panda for £6,995.
Like you I don't really care what it is as long as it is reliable and gives me as little grief as possible. I have run cheap sheds for the last 10 years or so but I think it would have been cheaper in the long run to buy a brand new car 10 years ago and run it into the ground.

Trouble is, at that price you get the Access which has black bumpers, no radio and wind up windows. I have however found a pre reg 2016 Ambiance in White with 1 mile on the clock for £5,995 which has to be the cheapest way to own a new car.
The 1.5 DCi is a lot more expensive and I found a 2014 Silver one for £6,995 with 18k on the clock.

I'm tempted however to find a pre owned 1.5 DCI sandero rather thana new petrol one. That's what I did with my logan and it's proved great so far!
I guess there is no way to avoid the cost of motoring, you either pay over a few years or at the end when you come to sell. Not sure what size car you are thinking of but I had a 2 year old Kia Ceed from these guys http://www.carleasingbargains.co.uk/ on a PCP. All Kia's come with a 7 year warranty so if you got a 2 old one you still have a longer warranty then most new cars come with.
