I don't think there is a defined acceptable delivery miles.
That does seem a little higher than usual, but no big deal if it hasn't been thrashed. Have you checked with the dealer if it has had any rectification work done? If they've had to fix something found at PDI it might have had to travel somewhere and back before you collected.

Ask the dealer why it has so many miles on it. See if you can get some freebies out of them.

But, unless something on the car is not working then does it really matter?

I'd struggle to put an exact number on it but 170 sounds like too much.

I've had pre-registered cars with 6 miles on the clock and I'm fairly sure the last few new cars I've had have all had single digits as delivery miles.

Put it this way, 170 suggests it's been somewhere since the dealership had it off the wagon.

Was it a showroom car? Might have been on a few test drives.

It would have to be registered wouldn't it?

When you say "bought" do you mean you already have it on your drive, or you are looking at it and considering the purchase?

Delivery miles should consist of driving it on and off ships and transporters into and out of parking grounds. Not driving it to the dealership from Felixstowe.

50 Miles max is what I would say is 'delivery mileage', if it's pre-registered or an ex-demo then anything is fair game.

I have delivered a car with 100+ miles as new but only becuase the customer wanted a specific spec/colour which was at another dealer, the customer agreed to have it driven to us to keep costs down and was happy with the mileage.

Bit late now to be querying / questioning / getting concerned about it.

Relax and enjoy your new car! beer

Thanks, hadn't realised you could do test drives of a brand new unregistered car on trades tbh.

Under 200 miles is classed as delivery mileage, your car sounds like it had possibly been transferred from another dealership and driven rather than transported to the selling dealer.

When I bought my ST earlier this year the dealer did explain that as 1 in 30 cars get an extended test my car could arrive with over 100 miles on. It arrived with 6 miles on.

This could be what happened to yours?

I didn't 'pluck' it from anywhere.

I would say that was a "theres a chance we might drive your car up from another dealers so be prepared for some extra miles on it".

I've never heard of "extended tests" on a new car.

It was 'laid down' for me in a manufacturer training course but please find some notes to similar effect below
