I've been thinking...

You cannot make engine Oil without:

a refinery,
an oil tanker
a large laboratory and of course
an Oil well.

So isnt cheap oil simply rebranded good stuff??

Does anyone know if I'm onto something here or am I just talking C**p (as normal?)

Does anyone know any examples of this?

Crap, unfortunately.

Its all in the additives, not all oils have the same anti-foaming, anti-coagulants, plasticisers etc. The base minerla oil will be the same, thats true, but you pay for the additives.

I used to be a big believer in cheap oil when I had cheap cars........until.....I had an engine blow up with oil pressure failure. Never again!

mondeoman is correct .... additives are everything. And it's not just down to cheap oils not having certain additives, it's down to quantity too ... cheap oils will have (say) seal swell, but just not much.

And lube (base) oil does vary in quantity too.
