Street cars produced by Porsche Motorsport?

Porsche Motorsport produces street cars like the Cayman GT4 and 911 GT3. These are made in Wiessach instead of Stuttgart and Leupzig like the 'normal' Porsche cars. Correct me if I am wrong.

I am looking for a list of all the cars made by Porsche Motorsport. So far I have these:

996.1 GT3

996.2 GT3
996.2 GT3 RS
996.2 GT2

997.1 GT3
997.1 GT3 RS
997.1 GT2

997.2 GT3
997.2 GT3 RS
997.2 GT2 RS

991.1 GT3
991.1 GT3 RS

Cayman GT4

I am sure these aren't all Motorsport street cars. Please state what cars I forgot! Here are a few I am not sure about:

918
Cayman R
Boxster Spyder (both generations)
911 R

Are we talking about designed, or manufactured ?

There was some speculation that the first 996GT3 Mk1 (CS ??) was (part) manufactured or finished at Weissach.

After that I am guessing that everything you mention would be Stuttgart or elsewhere ...

As suggested above the 996.1 GT3 was made at Weissach, all the others made at Stuttgart.


I suspect the very few GT1's were made at Stuttgart.


Now even the 991 cup cars are made at Stuttgart as I saw one being worked on while on my factory tour this year.

I am not sure (that's why I ask), but I thought that Porsche has special 'GT Department' for their most hardcore street cars. Those cars are the ones I want to list. Apperantly these aren't made in Weissach, but isn't there a special team that makes these track day weapons?

Am I talking BS or is that something you also read/heard about?

With 'made' I mean developed (not actually produced), sorry for the confusion (English is not my native language). Let me improve my question:

What street cars are developed by the GT Division of Porsche Motorsport?

Well, the Cayman R and 987 + 981 Spyders are not Weissach products.

Alright, so the Cayman R and Spyder Boxster (both gens) are 'normal' Porsche products (not developed by Porsche Mototrsport). This would mean that this is the list of all Weissach developed cars:

It's not as simple as this. All Porsche's have to a certain extent a "Weissach" input, some more than others , but where do you draw the line? Weissach is an integral part of Porsche AG and both work together, it can be hard to see the joins .

Porsche runs a flexible production line for the 911 series and freely intermixes all of them on the line. I have been to Stuttgart a number of times ( as many others have). While the design of the GT3, RS and others would be undertaken by Preuninger and his team, production is certainly on the main line currently.

All of these cars was produced at the regular production line, even the 996.1 GT3. Even the regular 996 Cup cars was produced at the Zuffenhausen line. The only cars produced at Weissach (and that was on a base from Zuffenhausen) was the RSR. The Weissach line could only produce about 100 cars per year, why in the world would they use capacity here for a street car.

These facts are documented in different serious literature, I found the most details in Karl Ludvigsens excellent book. The reason the first batch of 996.1 GT3s was limited to 1350 is because the production run was squeezed in before the Turbo took the capacity at Zuffenhausen. The same with the second batch of 508, it was due to free capacity before the GT2 went into production at Zuffenhausen.

Are the current 911 Cup cars still made on the "normal" production line? I'd expect so.

The 918 was built at Stuttgart, I visited the production area as part of a tour of the factory.

I am sure that the Carrera GT was developed and honed by the engineers at Weissach (I saw development cars on the road there) but they were built at Leipzig.

If Weissach was capable of producing 100 cars per year --- in 1999 and 2000 they certainly didn't make 100 GT3R's in fact, in 1999 they only made 2.

The waterification of the Mezger engine would have been critical to the whole GT3 Cup process --- the GT3R engine is different but with a similar base.

The GT3 MkI was the homologation car for the GT3R's --- and there was certainly some space for some Weissach involvement --- but who knows ?

I see the same old arguments but no new information ....
