Hi all,

I've been looking to buy myself a nice watch for some time now, however as I'm off to the states (florida) in November, i'm wondering whether it would be worth the saving whilst over there?

Last time i went, i saw a good few brand own stores and dealers, just wondering if anyone has experience from over there and if the savings are worth it over the UK?

Cheers
Jack

Looked a couple of years ago and the shops we looked in (omega & hublot) where no cheaper than the uk in fact I seem to recall some where more expensive.

I agree. Plus you have the import duty risk.

Try Iconic Watches or Dom H on here

i recall popping in breitling and omega whilst there last year but not paying any attention to prices.

I hear that you can reclaim florida sales tax whilst out there, or avoid for want of a better word, i suppose as you say above, the risk is the import tax/duty etc.on return

The other kicker is the really poor exchange rate at the moment.

Complete wasre of time as the exchange rate makes nice watches in the US appreciably more expensive than the UK.

^This.

However, this guy has a very good reputation on watch forums.

Just got back from the Caribbean and Florida and as others have said the exchange rate means that even with discounts Rolex are still more money than the UK equivalent. However if you can find anything rare i.e. Ceramic Daytona buy it. Best bet is to buy duty free from the airport on the way out if they have or can get the model you want.

I tried on a Breitling Transocean in the Mall at Millenia this year and after doing the maths with the poor exchange rate, there wasn't any saving.

Had a look around this year (August) in the malls etc. and nothing worth saving on. Even Invictas (which they have numerous stalls of in malls/outlets) worked out more. In the Outlets I went too I only popped into Tag Heuer, Who were more expensive especially with the exchange rate, but I've heard that a bit of talking will get them to move, however we didn't get to talking, They seemed more interested in completely ignoring me and my partner

There was a shop that sold anything that fossil makes at a big discount, the "top" brand being Burberry, but not the very nice Brit automatics! Biggest savings were there.

Pretty sure buying at the Airport would be cheaper.
