wow. so cool! you can just imagine the look of the greasy spoon customers as they gawped!
reminds me of the time I stopped at a greasy spoon in the countryside near durham in the ginetta. the owner said I could fill my face with food for a drive in it so I took him up and down the road 5 miles or so for nothing...he was well pleased

If the queue was full of PHers then agreed, but what are the chances they'd tell their folks back home about that nice Toyota / Mazda they saw parked up? Or if the prancing horse did hit home, the notion of recognising a 288 GTO is just too optimistic. [Sigh]Joe Pubic isn't like us[/Sigh]
Saw my first one today. Car is awesome, bit smaller than i expected. It was behind me on our driveout today. Some pics here;

I'm a big fan of Ferrari, having had a 360, but I just for the life of me cannot see what the fascination is with the GTO.
IMO, and please don't flame, it is just ugly
( particularly the wheels ) compared with the 250SWB or most of the other classic ranges form before the miami vice period. Sorry but the dribbling this car provokes from many enthusiasts is lost on me.

To me the GTO is the best looking Ferrari ever. It has the stunning lines of the 328 but 'pumped up'. It is one of the only Ferraris which manages to combine beautiful looks with real aggression, something that very few Ferraris manage.
The early cars like the 250SWB are extremely beautiful but dont but dont exude an aura of power and performance.
Cars like the F40 and Enzo on the other hand look very muscular and powerful but are not beautiful to look at.
Plus the 288 is a lot more exclusive than an Enzo and in a different league compared to the F40 which is almost a mass produced car in comparison.
I want one. A lot.

I could not agree more. The 288 GTO is the best looking car ever made.
I understand your point on the wheels. Those Borranis on period Astons and Ferraris with their dished rims look soooo good. The cars from that era are beauts too. For me, the 250 SWB is THE best looking Ferrari of all time - but the 288 and F40 run it very close. I also like the Berlinetta Boxer too, so perhaps I'm just a little odd?
Nope, looked at it again from all angles and feel I would still need a mullet and a white jacket ( sleeves rolled ) to qualify to drive it.
How on earth can it be compared to the svelte beauty of a 250, Lusso or California. I even feel the 355 looks better. And those wheels...talk about the antithesis of low profile.
For me it remains more Ford GT40 or Lambo than Ferrari. All shoulders and pumped lines, straight out of Dynasty.

can't see what's wrong with Lambo's or GT40s myself ..... specially the Miura !
I like most older Ferraris (and the newer ones) - I agree about the 250 SWB - in the flesh a 250 GTO is awesome, lovely curves, styling yet it means business !
But I always thought the 308 / 328 was one of the best shapes ferrari ever came up with, so the 288 GTO is awesome imho. I love the way that you can follow the blood line from the 246 Dino to the F40 in a kind of Darwinian kind of way.
