Recently made the same switch myself. The Porsche is a "grower" i.e. it does'nt feel fast and exciting to drive initially, but given time and a few trackdays it grows on you and you start to realize what an awesome package any 996 is, plus you can use it every day and park it anywhere and generally blend in. The Ferrari just feels sooooo special from day one. Everyone will look at you.Park it and a crowd will gather.Every time you drive it feels like an special event. I open my garage door EVERY morning and stare at my 355 before trundling off to work in my diesel Audi! But you do need a runabout.These cars aint meant to be driven day to day, but I think this only adds to the anticipation every time you drive it. I feel however that red ones are substantially faster!

I had a test drive in a 996 Turbo "S" Wednesday last, very rapid and the carbon brakes were the equal of the six pot GT3 brakes,( IMO)
I was impressed to the point that I will change the C4S for a normal Turbo and take the DMS upgrade .
This evening I took the 360 out in the driving rain/hail (I`m in Suffolk) from the moment it fired up , Tubi tunes,......... from the moment it stopped,
It erased all memories of all that came before it, heart , soul, ..........Ferrari .
No contest.

I Recently bought a 355 spider, and i love it the 996 Turbo is a fantastic car - but the Ferrari just has that certain 'something'!
I just changed the 996 Turbo for a Cayenne which i should be collecting tommorow, will be sad to see the turbo go - but i needed something that can carry golf clubs etc. (transporting a set of golf clubs in the 996 was certaintly not ideal!).

Being a "bit" of a 911 fan myself, I find the above comments a bit odd!
996 is fine if you come from a german exec and want a Gt car without going the whole way towards a sportscar...there is no doubt a 355 has much more of a sense of occasion. The 911 will flatter your driving where as on the occasions I have pedalled them, the 355 makes you work much harder.
It all comes down to how you intend to use the car, if you have the Ferrari itch it surely needs scratching.......oddly they really don't pull the right strings for me...my problem though!

not at all. had a 355. very nice but by no way as engaging a drive as the 996. test drive a 360 and a 996tt - 360 lurrrrvellly but not as fund to drive as a 996. clearly neither cars are bad but IMO you buy a ferrari to 'tick the box'... don't get me wrong either, i will get another, because they are great cars and great to drive. just not as good as a 996. that is my opinion.
it is also, interestingly enough, the opinion of a sales guy who works for me. i him bought a 355 vs 996 track day as an xmas bonus type thing. he had pined after a 355 since forever, but after doing his track day (last saturday incidently) driving both cars he did (and it really pained him to say it) say that the 996 was by far and away the more fun / engaging / better feel car to drive...
in conclusion porsches are better than ferrari's
now what's so controversial about that?

I also came the griffith/996/355 route and I think it depends on what you use the car for and how tight the budget is (or not is) For daily use I am perfectly satisfied with my 530D so I don't use the other car every day. In my opinion the Porsche is better engineered than the Ferrari, it makes the almost perfect blend between a very, very good drivers car (flattering your abilities) and a pretty comfy GT/travel car. However when we start talking "raw-thrills-department" there is nothing that can possibly beat a Ferrari with a Tubi. The drive is so much more involving, every -even little- drive is an event. So, i think a Porsche should only be bought if you can afford to drive it every day, you won't find anything better. The day I can afford it I will have a Porsche beside my Ferrari for every day. If it is fun and a toy you are after; GO FOR THE FERRARI !!!!!
Ps. if you can not handle attention, you should actually stay away from both, and since the Ferrari price negotiations with business associates became much harder!! LOL.

Good call Dries,360 + tubi beats C4S with sports exhaust & Griff sans baffles (IMO of course). I`ve had various Porsche`s over a 25 year period love `em to bits but for that added thrill of being out there a bit further , it`s Ferrari.
