Looking to spend no more than £600.
Discussion
Times are hard, sort of, but reality also comes into it. I'm now of retirement age but I'm fit, healthy, enjoy my boys's toys and refuse to stop working. I want to buy a new watch, I don't need to but I want to. When I was 15 my parents bought me a 14k Omega Seamaster De Ville. I did everything a 15 year old does without taking it off. I don't know how many times through swimming and sailing it was submerged without any problems. When I was 24 I bought a Constellation and owned that till 8 years ago. I bought my first Rolex, a DateJust 30 years ago. Have also owned an Air King and a Submariner. Over the last 6/7 years have owned Zenith rainbow fly back and Heuer Autavia.
Now my everyday watch is a Military Watch Company (MWC) submariner. I've worn it everyday and it keeps as good a time as any that I've mentioned. I bought it in 2011 and worn it every day. I shower with it on, I swim with it on and I do lots of labouring jobs around the farm with it on. That includes hammering fence poles in. Nothing phases it. I've never serviced it as it cost about £200 when I bought it and it works. If I took it into somewhere to be serviced they might look at it and think Chinese internals, why bother.
So I want to buy something new, just for the sake of it but what? I like the new watches from Elliott Brown and MHD, I like retro styles, motoring or diver's. I could buy Used but I'd be buying what I've had, if I'm lucky, or something I have not bothered with. I like some of the German watches, some of the new American but what ?
Can somebody whose bought something recently please give advice ?

This Hamilton is cheap as chips if you fancy an American brand.

If I had 600 quid to spend on a watch I would save my money and take the wife away for a lovely weekend somewhere sunny.
Your not going to get a decent watch for that price, nothing worth owning anyway.
Should you be insistent that you want another watch I would buy a citizen. Or for you I think steinhart will fit the bill.

A few "premium" watches were mentioned, yes. The OP also mentioned that he has a £200 watch that he's treated like his b
h for a few years and has proven to be utterly reliable, it appears that he's quite appreciative of that as well.
Anyway, to help prevent the thread from being derailed any further, I'll chuck in Junghans as well.

I've had nice watches but none now. £600 bought me a Seamaster Professional six years ago and just over that a Speedmaster seven years ago but they had to go after divorce etc. They're way more now. Some of you have mentioned Steinhart and Sinn, both I've wondered about. Christopher Ward, have always shown an interest in them but something has always said "no". Ball I quite like, a bit different. My favourite watch of all time that I've owned was my zenith Rainbow Flyback, something that most people didn't know about but those who did appreciated it. That went the same way at the same time as the Speedmaster and Seamaster Prof.
So something a bit out of the ordinary, not one of the mainstream brands, automatic, sports/dive design, steel bracelet, luminous hands, date, I suppose a posh version of my MWC. I'm looking at my MWC as I write and it has a sterile black face, black bezel and steel bracelet.
Need to do some more homework.

As someone with a Panerai, who previously owned a Steinhart, I'm under no illusions that most of the price of the Panerai is for the name written on the dial (and the styling, I suppose). They're both just stainless watches with a leather strap (actually Steinharts straps are excellent) and a manual wind swiss built movement.

Really, even by PH snobby standards thats harsh. I own a couple of expensive watches, but also own a couple of Steinharts and a few Seikos and consider them all worth owning, in fact they are all nice in their own way. Or for you I think steinhart will fit the bill.
Oh and the service from Steinhart is 1st class.
