After convincing my partner of the merits of a nice shiny porker and agreeing to let her drive it, she's said I can get an early RHD 993 coupe. So....
I've been searching round the unoffical dealers (as found on www.911-classified.com/members/independ.html) and seen one or two that are suitable.
Anyone got any comments on any of these people ?
I realise you'll have to mail me rather than post a reply if you're going to be rude/truthfull about someone, so that's fine.
Thanks for your advice so far...

I would trust blindly

Paragon and cridfords

I would recommend visiting:

Crawford, P&P cars, Specialist of malton. camtune, autofarm, northway, shirleys, Adrian Palmer, Hartech.

I wouldn't personally recommend Charles Ivey

I have bought from Shirleys...

My advice is unless you are buying from a OPC or Paragon (and probably Cridfords) get an independent inspection, negotiate a price based on the results and take it to somewhere like JZ Machtech to get the stuff sorted. This way you know what you're buying and you know it will have been sorted with out the requirement to maximise sale profit margins...

I like Autofarm and trust these guys a lot, however, they don't have a huge amount of stock compared to Paragon for example.

I wouldn't particularly recommend Prestige and Performance at 911virgin as Henry can be a bit overbearing, and his brother Tom is twenty times worse - all the arrogance, none of the charm! Henry's wife was the nicest of the lot - very accommodating - and not in the way UV and Scottster are imagining. Henry's cars are cheap though. But you do get what you pay for, ie often you'll get not a lot of peace of mind for not a lot of money. At Autofarm you pay 3-4k more because they have sorted out 3-4k's worth of problems and potential problems beforehand. So don't always go on lowest price - always go on running and purchase costs over the time you'll own the car for.

Cheers

I agree with Dom, P&P slipped in by mistake... But you should go anyway, just for a laugh.

It's OK Dom we know what you mean, and it's disgusting

Try Camtune in Godalming Surrey, generally very good cars in stock.

Not as keen on Cridfords, one pal in particular had great problems until had to threaten legal action !

I'm surprised by peoples comments on Cridfords. 2 Guys at work have had what I would consider excellent service from them. Well, just goes to show the benefit of these forums.

But Cridfords do offer a fantastic service in Gimp suits, maybe that's why UV was treated like a king?

I ahve also heard dodgy stuff about Cridfords, but UV does kickboxing and I don't, so I have to agree with anything he says

I also talk shite a lot of the time, a caveat that should be applied to any of my contributions. Scottster my ol' mate, I promise to return your gimp suit it's just I suspect it's main reason your bird spends so much time at my place

Dom, my turbulent past is very much behind me now. There is nothing I like more than a good meal, a glass of wine, and the company of someone else wife

UV does kickboxing?

Domster, you never told me that before, I'll treat him with the new found respect he deserves for sure - Not the whore nonsing, coke snorting wide boy I'd previously assumed he was.

I can vouch for Camtune as well.Bought my car from them and has been excellent.Had one or two minor probs but they were sorted under warranty without any hassle.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Have arranged visits and test drives accordingly.

On a similar subject, anyone have experience of 'brokers' who claim to source cars from within the trade ? I guess these people offer private owners more for the their old Porsche than the main dealers would do for part-ex against newer cars.
If anyone knows any good 'brokers' or any bad ones please let me know.
Thanks, 911newbie

Find a car yourself mate, it's not that hard.

My Dad used one once, if I'd seen the car I wouldn't have let him go within ten feet of it and certainly not got his cheque book out.....anyway, you can guess what's been sat on his drive for the past three years and been sat in the garage being mended for most of that!!

Of course, you gave the 'Scottster seal of approval' to my Lotus Carlton. Which made your dad's 944 cab look like a Swiss watch in terms of reliability! I think we were both seduced by the idea of 377bhp, although how the f**k you didn't spot it had the wrong head gasket I'll never know

Joff Ward at Finlay Gorham in Suffolk is the man to see for decent porkers at very cheap prices. He has been selling Porkers for over 20yrs and realy knows his stuff & doesnt have a big profit margin just sells lots of cars. Polite and respectfull fella too.

May I remind the right honerable gentleman that I had bloody nothing to do with the selection of that piece of junk!!

I was lured into a trip to the Fatherland to inspect a 968CS and Audi RS2 - both of which were exceptional cars. I had no idea that upon your return the following week you'd have purchased the LC, which I believe I didn't even hear start as they didn't have the keys!!! (yer right, they obviously spotted an expert and decided they'd wait till his mug mate came back on his own )

The only shed I bought was a 'ssssshhhh, you know what', and I won't make that bloody mistake again.....and I believe that was on your advice mate!

I'm a bloody God Colbeck and don't you forget it!!
