I have a Seiko solar diver that going to cost me £165 from Ernest Jones, should arrive tomorrow at the shop.

great watch, will be the most I have ever spent............so far.

I like it a lot, very ohhh ahh shiney.

Then we have the Citizen ProMaster, £150 with out any fancy discounts or sale

I like its simple unfussy classic looks, and being dark blue it has the little extra over all the other similar looking watches that are all black.

Both divers' watches but one's a chronograph and the other isn't. Which do you prefer?

Personally, of the two, I'd get the Seiko. It's on the steel bracelet but you could always buy a blue rubber strap and dress it down if you wanted.

Take a look here too: http://www.creationwatches.com/products/?currency=...

Plenty of deals on Seiko and Citizen models. Many of us on here have bought from the site.

Another vote for the Seiko, as you may know the Citizen is basically a Seiko SKX007 but in blue, they come in a few colour options iirc.

I dont know much about the Citizen but the Seiko (SKX) is really popular and is very well regarded in terms of value for money.

I like the Citizen, as you said, clean and unfussy. Looks like a watch that means business. I've looked at those Seiko's myself, but something about them makes them look a bit bloated.

Seiko for me definitely, quite apart from anything else the date wheel is the right colour.

Well that was an anti climax

Got to Ernest Jones

Out came the Seiko

Blue under sticker missing, not the end of the world

Put it on, fits perfectly, no need to remove any links, ermmm, surely for my wrist size two to three links would need to be removed

Suspect this was a less than a week old return from the shop that did have it. Who then shipped it to Manchester.

They are going to see if they can get a genuine new one and ring me tomorrow.

Seiko's SKX models are certainly well regarded however none of them could be considered to be the equivalent of the Citizen pictured - Citizen's NY0040 range is closer to the SKX007/9 as they're both day/date mechanical divers.

As to the chrono Seiko and Citizen 3 hander in the OP it's the latter that gets my vote based on nothing more than I prefer its aesthetics.

I've had the skx009 and a Seiko monster

Great watch, but, I find automatics a pain in the butt, I just don't wear them often enough to keep them wond up.

I was referring to the SKX007/9 smile if it was a choice between either one of those or the citizen I'd take the SKX

Automatic vs solar quartz then

I've had two auto Seikos

I just wish Seiko had an SKX solar lookalike

To elaborate of how I was 99% sure the Seiko was a customer return, the strap adjustment was spot on for me with the micro adjuster all the way out.

The shop had a SSC015P1 which is the sister model to the 019, same basic watch, only the colour changes

I tried that on and could get 2 fingers in between me and the watch with the micro adjuster all the way in, so between 2 and 3 links where missing on the 019.

Definitely sounds like a return, and a bit cheeky for them to try and sell it as new. The bracelet fit and no extra links is a clear give away. Reminds me of an 'its an ex demonstrator with one registered owner' car I bought from Mercedes once. Registered owner turned out to have been Avis and the garage basically said 'tough titty' when I complained. Nothing ever bought from or serviced there since means they've lost more than they made. Suggest you do the same.

There was the Seiko SBCM023 - quartz, perpetual, 8 year battery, stopped making them a few years ago, so only 2nd hand.

The Seiko chronograph only measures up to 1 hour. 120 click bezel.
There is an auto version of the Citizen, but has the winder at 8 o'clock instead of 4.

Also - consider the citizen BN0100 if you want a solar (divers' 200m). similar price, excellent bracelet with rachet divers extension, but stupid 23mm spring bar width.
Seiko have some new solars out (SBDJ009/011/015/019), but more expensive - titanium, Diashield, 44mm
And some solar Tunas - SBDN021/025/029.

I'm waiting for a solar SKX007 as well.
