Cant you just get a normal crate and build a frame and put a work top finish on top?

I'm sure somebody could.

I don't have many talents and working with wood isn't one of them.

I haven't. But I assume you know it's from this lot? http://bbkustomkennels.com/

If you're willing to spend a grand (or whatever) getting it made they're happy to ship it to you for another grand (or whatever). They're not cheap, regardless.

A local chippy/handyman could knock one up for you I suspect.

You could buy a big table and infill between the legs and use the narrow end for the gate. Or buy two or three smaller tables and butt them up against each other for more flexibility as to the layout. That could make filling in between easier.

You could infill with a stiff mesh/grid, which would probably be easiest, or maybe staircase spindles (expensive, but would look fancy), rope etc, dependant on the look you want. You could make it look really good. If you put a large tablecloth over it when not in use, you could disguise it almost completely.
