Raceco exhaust - Acousta-fil - Track days
Discussion
Morning,
I need to repack my Raceco exhaust on an R500 spec Duratec, 2 quick questions hopefully:
1) Will Acousta-fil be up to the job based on track day usage?
2) They need the diameter of the internal perforated pipe. Anybody know this? I have the 75cm long, 18.5cm version
Thanks in advance,
Lee

Talk to Mike at Raceco, you can buy packing from him £12/kg from memory.I need to repack my Raceco exhaust on an R500 spec Duratec, 2 quick questions hopefully:

I have a Powerspeed repackable exhaust and just popped the tail off to measure the internal diam, but you could reasonably assume the perforated pipe isn't going to massively different to the internal diameter of the tail pipe I think. It isn't a hugely scientific task in the sense that you still end up cutting the Acoustafil by hand from the stock size you order (per metre). I have a K series seven used primarily for trackdays and found that once bedded in, the exhaust was noticeably quieter than before, though the filling removed was a tad crispy in places. I used PTX and I don't have many pops and bangs on over-run, so it should suffice.
If fitting yourself this may help: I ended up using a cardboard tube a bit bigger than the perforated pipe and wrapping the Acoustafil around it, rather like making my own itchy roll of wrapping paper. You need to wrap it quite tightly. I then fed this into the silencer, pulled the cardboard tube out and voila. The cutting took longer than the fitting IIRC.

Still yet to have a test drive since but not a lot of whatever was used last time was in there so should be an improvement.
Will take a few cycles to really become effective. My first impression was it hadn't changed much, but 50 miles later was night and day.Edited by griggsy2 on Thursday 11th August 15:34
