Gents - would appreciate a word of advice from the knowledgeable please.

Have a K Series VHPD; dry sumped (with the Caterham standard 'tower' off the bell housing). Recently been getting some v high oil pressure reading (RaceTech mechanical gauge). On start its around 80 psi. Always warm the car very carefully, idles around 70 when warmed through - but when a good bit of throttle is applied its hitting 100. Way too high. Oil was changed at the start of the year. Did wonder if I had slightly over filled it - but nothing in the catch tank.

One assumes the Oil Pressure relief valve is sticking/stuck.

How much of a pain is this to change?

Do you have to take off the gold dry sump pump etc?

What car were these engines from - would like to get a manual - was it the MG TF?

Is there a parts list available any where?

What parts would one need and where is the best to get them from?

A supplementary questions as well - rather fancy a combined oil pressure/Oil temp gauge - where would one take the feed off for the temp aspect?

Thanks

Bob

The pressure relief valve is on left hand side of the oil pump (as viewed from the front of the engjne). It is under the cradle that holds the scavenge pump, removal of the valve will require the inlet side engine mount, TB support, scavenge pump and cradle, to be removed. Once the retaining cap has been unscrewed from the pump (10mm hex key) the spring can be withdrawn, but the plunger part of the relief valve may be a challenge to remove.

A temperature sender can be sited on the oil filter elbow casting where the oil enters the engjne.

It may be that you have an issue with the filter, have you changed it recently?

Thanks - that is very interesting. The oil filter was changed when I changed the oil back in January. Maybe first port of call is swapping that out and see where things are after that. Be a damn sight simpler by the sound of it than taking everything apart to change the Relief Valve (that flags a concern when Gentleman of your skills and experience classify it as a 'challenge'!

If it is the relief valve - I think it wise for me to let an expert work their magic, rather me and my ignorance blundering through!
