£350,000 on turning a roundabout with traffic problems, into..well..aroundabout with 21 sets of lights and traffic problems.
Arn't these local kremlins supposed to publish plans for this sort of work? Or do you have to dig around loacal libraries in some obscure section? Took 8 months as well!

Where is this numpty entertainment centre, it sounds a marvel of design by comitee. We in Northampton are all to fammiliar with the the roundabout/lights combo, as we are thought to be far to stooopid, to manage a whole roundabout without ending up on our roofs or on the island.

I detest these lights on roundabouts abortions, all they ever do is disrupt traffic flow, they never solve a problem, just cause one or make one worse. I ignore them on the M6/A426 junction (M6 J1) pretty often as they will be against me when I am the only vehicle on the entire roundabout.

Another pet hate is inappropriately sequenced lights. Off the same A426 they recently opened the J1 complex (cinema, McD, bowling alley, you know the sort of thing) and put a T junction with traffic lights to access it. Sequence for the lights (pay attention, I'll be asking questions later!) is all go on the main A426, then all stop on A426 with left turn only out of complex, then right turn out of complex as well, then all stop out of complex while A426 turn right into complex only, then back to all go on the A426.

So wanting to turn left INTO the complex you end up sitting at red lights when there is absolutely no possibility of anyone else turning into the complex (all stop on A426 remember). And in a special filter lane mind you.

Then while the only traffic allowed to move is the left turn only out of the complex, why oh why is the special filter lane to turn right into the complex on red? Again, no possibility of conflict there, instead you have to wait for your brief green.

Again I use my own judgement here, and when going to the gym at 6:30am I am not going to sit for 3 minutes on a pointless red light waiting to turn left. This is a new junction, so was it designed that way on purpose (what purpose?), or has someone fcuked up?

Suppose a letter to the planning department is in order. Fcukwits.

Just better point out that thats 21 poles with lights. Some are high level so you can see them a way off. Pity the trees cover them.

About 3 or 4 years ago, the Berkshire traffic consultancy called 'Babtie' used by what was then Berks CC prior to unitory authorities to completely fk up the road systems in the county, without warning, placed traffic light signals on two of the main roundabouts on the A4 at Maidenhead.

This was without consultation and without warning. They just appeared. They had the effect of congesting a previously uncongested part of the A4, in fact probably the only uncongested part of the A4.
None of the local people wanted, asked or suggested that the lights were installed. They received such a backlash of public protest through the local paper and direct to the council headquarters, that within a couple of months, they were removed.

A huge amount of money was spent installing them which would have been much better spent in other areas, such as perhaps re-surfacing some of the worst areas on other local roads.

Although the lights were removed, the poles to stick them on and the induction loops in the road surface were left insitu.
I wonder when the lights will return as they inevitably will one day.

When Berks CC was disbanded, unfortunately 'Babtie' wasn't and is still causing chaos within Berkshire

The Italians appear to have an altogether more enlightend aproach to traffice control, ie switching them off in evening/weekend and more to the point regarding the red light as a guide at all other times,
so as so often happens here, when some numpty pushes the button at a ped/crossing, and runs off giggling, you use common sense and (mount pavement and give chase) drive on.

The Wells bypass was a good idea completely fcuked up by the traffic light engineers. Given how little traffic we have down here (relatively), the resultant big queues and frustrated drivers are an astonishing feat of traffic mis-management.

All the locals use the High Street as a rat-run; it's full of tourists, shoppers and bl@@dy dangerous but it's way quicker than the new bypass. Council moves to pedestrianise the High Street keep getting overturned; can't think why......

Couldn't agree more with you madcop. I live in Maidenhead, and there seems to be a record attempt going on - how many humps you can place on a road. They are ruining the suspension on my car! Many are also 20mph limits - can you go over them any quicker? They are placed outside schools for safety reasons - but the schools are out now, and kids are only around between 8 and 4 in term time. Better to strictly enforce the 20mph limit, like they do in other countries. Does anyone know who pays for the damage, should they damage the car? Finally my partner reckons her back pain has been getting worse since they put the humps in! Rant over!
