Mrs T has had a new BMW M2 on order for a few months. Because it's a new model they're difficult to get hold of. On Saturday we're told its ready for collection (apparently it's the first one in the country that's not gone too the sheikh's family). Down we pop, sign the paperwork and are given the keys. The car looks fantastic in blue.I suggest we go for a bit of a drive so she can get used to it. I've got a GT3 so she follows me for what should be a good run out to Kalba and back.

Half an hour later she flashes me. We pull over and find that the engine light has come on and the car is in safe mode. We head back to the dealer. Salesman is very apologetic and says they will run a diagnostic check but it won't be ready until Sunday - ok no problem - ask if they can tint the Windows as compensation for the inconvenience and they agree. These things happen - no problem.

Yesterday Mrs T gets a call to say that during a road test the technician had a crash and the car is written off.

I foresee a problem looming .... no more BMW M2's available for the foreseeable future.

So .... getting my backside down there today. Going to be an interesting conversation today .... starting with "I want to see the damaged car".

I really want to see how this goes, don't take no for an answer either.

I suspect with this being the Middle East though you'll have no recourse even if they have sold it on, or if you do it'll be a process so painful and lengthy that it wont be worth it!

Tell them she's left something in the car and needs to get it back!

Well that's the case actually as the insurance documents along with BMW freebie stuff were in the boot.

Also we still have the registration card that shows the car is registered to Mrs T.

In effect she is the sole owner of that car so it's difficult to see that they could do anything with it without her permission.

Anyway, I shall keep you posted on events. Just rolling up my sleeves ...

Interesting they say it is written off ...... as surely that term is the end result of a lengthy estimation process that cannot be instigated without a police report and a insurance claim (tho i guess its on their insurance!)

However as the car is registered into your wifes name they wont be able to transfer ownership without her written permission ........

Bloody hell, that's a bit st!

Do keep us updated... are you suspecting they are claiming the car isn't crashed and they are/have sold it on for more?
Is that sort of practise in the UAE?

Ok so here's an update.

I've insisted on seeing the car. They tell me it's in the AGMC Body & Paint Centre in Al Quoz - I'll pop in on the way home and take some photos.

They were very apologetic, I told them that these things happen and that as long as nobody was hurt it didn't really matter and I was only interested on what they were poroposing to remedy the situation.

So they've offered two alternatives. 1) Full refund including any expenses. 2) Wait for another M2 which won't arrive until early October.

In the circumstances I guess you can't say fairer than that.

Ok, so you get another M2 but you've had to wait another 3 months... what compensation will they give you? 3 years free servicing, etc?

That would be a discussion to come but I did say I wanted them to provide transport for the next 3 months as Mrs T has already sold her X5. They weren't very happy at that suggestion but said they would go away and see what they could do.

If you have sold your old car because you have a new one, and they crashed it, it sounds reasonable they should provide you with transport.
I'm sure they will have insurance to cover that.

It wouldn't cost them very much to give you a 120d for 3 months, in all honesty. Certainly less than bad press they could get.

I'd push for a free car for those months until the M2 arrives and free servicing and get a new one when it arrives.

I would like to see pictures of it too though.

Someone I know had a Raptor in for major electrical repairs and Ford wrote that off while testing it, they got him a new one out of that.

Sorry to hear this. Not that it's any help to you but back when the E70 X5 had just come out, my wife and I ordered one from AGMC. On the day of collection, I was too excited to tick off all the options during the handover but on arriving home (doh!) realised the car was a completely different spec (apart from of course the obvious like the colour and the model designation).

What followed was a thoroughly unpleasant few months during which AGMC offered us another car closer to the spec I had ordered (but in a different colour) and insisted on charging more for it as the prices had moven on since the originally negotiated price. The only way to resolve it was to get shouty with people.

They are crooks, so I wish you the best of luck.

Absolute travesty. 1 day old M2 written off.

Apparently it was hit by an Emirati woman who was given the red slip by the Police.

I'm not sure it's repairable. I took some photos of the other side and the frame of the car is all twisted as their are big panel gaps everywhere.

That will be at Ras al khor for sale in a few weeks - one lady swiss expat owner... no paint... smile

Sorry, that's a real bugger. I guess it's better this way than if she had hit it when you guys had it.

To be fair the salesman who sold us the car (Brit) seems genuinely embarrassed (keeps phoning me apologising). Even offered to lend us his own car. I asked him if it was a GT3 RS (as a joke) he said no it's a Ford F-150 pick up .... ??? Of course what else would a BMW salesman drive.
