Hi, I am planning a European road trip in a couple of weeks.

Would be interested to hear anyones recommendations on the route, stops, restaurants etc. I already have hotels booked so don't want to deviate too much from the start and end location each day

Day 1 Calais – Reims – Dijon via D996 – Lake Geneva
Day 2 Lake Geneva – Lake Como
Day 4 Lake Como – Stelvio Pass – Fuela Pass – Davos
Day 5 Davos – Furka Pass – Grimsel Pass – Andermatt – Lauterbrunnen
Day 7 Lauterbrunned – Nurburg
Day 9 – Nurburg - Calais

On Day 7, which side of the Rhine do you plan to go north on? German side (Motorway 5) or French side (Motorway 35)?

No idea, I was thinking of going through the black forest but hadn't got that much into the detail yet

I'm doing the Black Forest on Sunday, taking the 500 from Baden Baden to Freudenstadt, supposed to be a fantastic road from what I hear. smile

French side offers the Schlumpf Collection as an interesting car museum:

Other than that driving on the French side is lame tbh.

Rather go through my home region, Black Forest. B500 was mentioned, it is an equivalent to British A roads. Smaller roads are called Lxxxx in Germany and are equivalent to a British B road.

Best cross the border in Basel and then head north east to enter into Black Forest via B317 and B518. Good starting point into the forest is Schopfheim or Wehr.

This is a bit of road you could go on once in the forest:

For the bits leading to that road and further north from it just check google maps and pick the twisties such as the L148 and L151 via Todtmoos to Todtnau to Feldberg. Feldberg is the highest mountain in Black Forest at 1493m.

This is a bit like Northern Wales... no matter the exact road you choose it's always a nice drive.

Let me know if you have specific questions.

I disagree. Strongly!! Yes, the Black Forest is great but so are the roads in Vosges. It can be busy at the weekend (just like the Black Forest) but during the week it's awesome there wink

Yeah, you're right. "Lame" is too harsh. Guess I am biased there with my recommendation to go Black Forest. wink
