Maybe we're all hypocrites. Maybe we're all guilty of a lack of respect and/or tolerance and/or understanding. Maybe war and conflict is sadly necessary. Maybe we'll never get "world peace". IMHO, we're given mixed messages by our peers and politicians anyway. Some quotes to make you think/puke/disregard...

We've got freedom of speech, as long as we say the right thing.
We're brought up to be individual, as long as we conform.
Why are most feminists anti-men, not pro-women.
The word "BELIEVE", right at its centre, has the word "LIE".

And finally, "I can't do what you can do, and you can't do what I can do, but we both have to do it." - Mother Teresa.

Wish I had. There's been a flux of threads on here that have touched a nerve I s'ppose - violence, religious discussion, society-gone-mad etc etc. Just a bit depressing.

World peace will never happen....

Humanity is an agitable species. Fighting, rivalry, competitiveness are inbuilt instincts of survival.

Individuality in the west is not opressed by government, it's opressed by the people. Groupish behaviour is another innately human trait, related to the survival instinct. People who go somehow against the grain have always been persecuted.. intellectuals, artists and peaceniks become painted as witches, heretics and schismatists.

Humanity, for all it's advances, is as interminably betrothed to primitive, instinctive, combative behaviours as ever.

Bring on the Bloodsports!

Am I a hypocrite ?

If people want to fight, fine, just don't do it in my town......I hate nimbys

I hate violence (apart from boxing ) but if I see someone key my car, they'd better be a bloody good runner

Anyway I've got this idea for a race series, It would be, I guess, about 30 laps, and every other lap you have to come into the pits for a tequila slammer

What d'you reckon, too PC

Phew, thought I was gonna get accused of sexism for that one! Good one, Don.

It's good to discuss and debate, but more and more people feel like they're treading on eggshells, scared of upsetting other people. This shows consideration of course, but their true feelings may not come out.
Hence the conversations like "I'm not racist, but.." and "I'm not gay, but..." etc.

I'm white and male, and I've never felt as oppressed as I do now. Oooh, too deep! Aaargh... *dies*

I know what you mean. I have regular blood-boiling moments these days. Full-on slippers at the telly time.

Ah well. Back to something more fun!

Don, you shouldn't have felt like you had to remove that post m8. It was good. In fact, it rang true to me!

Reading these thread recently it does seem that there is wholesale disdain about the state of this country and as every other fcuker seems to be at I've decided to become a refugee.

The Maldives is my location of choice.

I have decided that I am going to up sticks because I am a political refugee, I seek refuge from the ridiculous state of the nation, the fact that petrol is so expensive, that Cristal is way over priced and its almost impossible to get good service in a shop any more. Have you even tried to order a Filet De Bouef en Croute outside London? Its usually met with the response 'Does that come in a basket?' We have a blind man looking at social issues, an open back door to all and sundry (usually complete with crackpot religious or social beliefs), an overworked police force and an undereducated public. Community has gone downhill so fast that its now almost impossible to have a gossip over your garden fence with your next door neighbour because Wimpy have come along in the middle of the night and placed 'affordable housing' next to your pond.

Backstreet garages have gone leading to the demise of ashtrays with tyres on the outside of them, theres blokes on the Pirelli calender and the one armed lesbian yoghurt knitting blind war veterans society is now set to become the most powerful pressure group on earth.

I feel strangely better now.

I've even found myself saying, "I don't believe it!".

Its a worry. I always thought I was such a tolerant, even-handed, 'see the other point of view', kind of guy. Then what happens is one day, I wake up and find out I'm a bigot. Scary.

Its OK now though. A few years later again I woke up and found I was completely comfortable with being a bigot.
