Has anyone changed the brake calipers on a R53 Mini Cooper S? The rear one on mine has a split rubber gasket around the piston and therefore its sticking and making a squealing noise as the pads constantly rub on the disc.

Looking on google it has lots of guides on brake pads but not changing the caliper.

Can you not just get a new dust seal and piston?

Saying that, it's probably easier and cheaper to replace the whole thing if they fail regularly.

It's kind of as easy as unbolting, replacing the caliper then bleeding the brakes though.

Cheers. I was going to look at getting a second hand unit to get it through the MOT before I get rid.

They are a well-known weak point, the pistons stick so be wary if buying used

Just done all discs and pads on daughters cooper conv. and one rear piston has the rubber dust seal shredded so I've ordered a rebuild kit for £10 off fleabay. No fluid leak and piston went back in really easy so will only be using the dust seal out of the kit, easy & cheap fix. Before ordering on line I phoned all the local auto places to get a re-build kit and no one has them any more.. are we in that much of a disposable society nowadays, rolleyes
