Not many porker owners only have one motor, and in my experience if its an older ie pre 996 age porker the more mad the Porsche, the more normal the everyday car.
So far from track day chats over a cuppa, the most popular car with the well heeled RS porker owner who does lots of business miles, is the BMW 330d. Other popular wagons seem to be Rovers (usually diesel) or VW Golfs from Mk2 to new (MK4?) excluding the lucky swine ive recently met who uses his GT3 for the track and his 996turb for business!!

So im just wondering unless you commute by train/foot/motorbike/plane, or have a hareem of automotive exotica, what the most popular 'other car' is to the PH'ers.

A bloomin' great Mercedes luxo barge. Corners better than you might expect, safety guaranteed by the ASR, BAS, ABS etc etc. And I've been faster in the Merc than I have taken the Porsche.

Greg. What an admission!

Last year I toured Ireland in our Tiv after doing the Isle Of Man thing with the TVRCC. So we stop at this garage to chuck some petrol in. Its a Daewoo garage.

As I fill it - the senior guy from the servicing bit rushes out with his three apprentices.

(All the following in a strong Southern Irish accent)

Him: "Would ye mind if we took a wee look under the bonnet?"

Me: "No. On you go."

Them: "Jeez. Would you look at the size of dat."
Them: "How fast have you had it?"

Me: "115mph on the Isle of Man where its legal."
(which was the case at the time)

Him: "Would ye mind just getting in the passenger seat, then, sir!"

Seriously nice bunch of chaps....

Merc C-Class 270CDI Estate. Great for travelling from Kettering to Bristol every week. Can fit the wife and kids in it and it's not a 3 series BMW! (There great cars but everbody's got one)

This is not on, get your act together, go to germany and play on a derestricted autobahn. It's fun, epsecially at 6.5k revs in sixth (315kmh in a 996tt).

I know I know, sorry chaps.

:hangsheadinshame:

145 out of the Merc, 120 in the Porsche so far. And just to annoy the PC types, that WASN'T on private roads or airfields. On the highway, no less.

The reason I got the 993 was because I wanted one car, not two. I've had a succession of various Jags, BMWs, Golfs and even a couple of 4x4s for daily use over the last 10 years, and 3 TVRs for weekend use during the same timeframe.

I only commute a couple of days a week now as I work at home a lot, and the commute is a 22 mile round trip on a rural and normally empty A4, so it's no great hardship in the 993. In fact I look forward to it!

That is why Scottster has a 993 Carrera, too. A great choice for an 'only car'.

I couldn't survive with just the RS myself, though. Plus, I love the fact I can park the Rover anywhere without worrying about parking dents, or get a ton of shopping/DIY stuff in the boot.

We have to have 2 cars as my missus works - no room for a third. Well, unless I hired a garage somewhere I suppose.

White van - Astra 1.8 TD, no signwriting, ABS and aircon. Pull out when I like, overtake when I want, park anywhere (just leave the hazards on).

Perfect for London...

Nope, just away from my school for the summer holidays, so not many opportunities to get to a computer with a decent Internet connection...

Hopefully 'normal service' should be resumed next week

Cheers!

You seem to rather like Porsches, Lee! Are you on for an 'S' or a Turbo?
